Ok, some sites claim Corsair are the top at the moments and some others say TeamGroup are the better price/quality relation memories out there, so if you had to choose between Corsair XMS PC-6400 Dominator and TeamGroup XTreem PC-6400 Dark Edition which one would you pick?

Same timmings, very similar specs, Corsair are a bit more expensive, but they do come with some coolers and I think the Xtreem doesn't. Is Corsair a clear winner here?

umm ok those Xtreem Dark aren't micron based, but I know there are the Mircon series though a bit more expensive and I don't think these Corsair Dominator are either or am I wrong?

I really don't understand exactly what are the advantages of micron based memories, is the difference that noticeable? Where can I have a good reading about that?

Corsair are not Micron based either. you have to buy the 8500series to get D9 chips with Corsair
I would just go with whats cheaper, you wont see much of a difference between promos and D9 anyways, might get slightly better overclocks with D9 but performance will probably be similar and I pesonally dont think it would be worth the extra money. However Buffalo Firestix are D9's and have a great deal on them ATM! out of stock on the DDR2-1000, but killer price on the DDR2-800

both the 6400 C4Ds and Team Xtreme Dark are Promos based. the main differences are that the Dominator has that big heatspreader where as the Team Dark come with their simple blue aluminum heatspreader. the Team Dark use an 8-layer PCB, the 6400 C4Ds only 6 AKAIK.

i have had both the Team Dark and the 6400 C4Ds. the Team Dark clocked much better than the 6400 C4Ds did. keep in mind, that is just one kit of each and is not conclusive in anyway on how any given set will clock between the two. i will say that i have seen a consistantly decent flow of results about the Team Dark though and would feel comfortable saying that they will likely clock better.

the biggest thing about Promos based VS D9 based is that the Promos stop responding to voltage around 2.3v~2.4v where as Micron D9 just keep taking volts and respond to voltage until they die. of course, for 24-7 use i wouldn't recommend over 2.4v for Micron D9 based anyway so it could be seen as a moot point anyway.

i try to tell people that the Promos we are seeing now are more than enough for most peoples needs unless you are into benchmarking at an extremely high level. save your money and get Promos and if i had to recommend a kit, i would say you can't go wrong with the Team Dark series. sorry for the length but HTH

Yeah, some Dominators have Promos - 6400s - while the 800+ are Micron based. Same goes for Team Groups. You might want to look into Buffalo firestix which I think are the best bang for your buck, and overclockability. I think their pc8000's are like $270 now for 2gb.

Also, the Buffalo Firestix PC6400 today were $185 for 2gb at the Buffalo factory store, and that Bufflo memory has the Micron D9 chips for $79 less than Crucial Dominator 6400C4D which has those crummy PROMOS chips. :D
