Memory bandwidth effects on folding?

I'm not sure on the specifics of that particular question, but for SMP/Bigadv/bigbeta folding, bandwidth is a huge help. You could shave seconds to minutes off your frame times, which can add up to thousands of PPD.

I'm unsure if this question on memory bandwidth question is specific to video cards or not?

What about DDR3 memory for CPUs that have the option of DDR3 1333/1600/1866? Isn't that also adding more bandwidth? How does that differ from the original question in regards to F@H?

memory bandwidth only effects bigadv WU's and its effects are huge. it has very little to no effect on standard SMP and has absolutely zero effect with video memory on the GPU3 client. GPU2 there is a slight advantage.. 100-125ppd at the most.

Are you referring to memory bandwidth gained by DDR3 bit width, frequency, or both, or neither?
Can memory bandwidth also be gained from going to dual channel or triple channel memory?

all of the above...

second part yes dual to triple is a significant difference in performance. triple to quad channel is an even bigger difference. its why the AMD magny cours processors are able to keep up with the xeon's with half the clock speed as the xeons.

I have tested this rather extensively. bandwidth and latency are linear on on smp vs bigadv specially sense bigadv doesnt have as much of a points advantage it used to. @1600 cas 9-9-9-24-1t vs case 7-7-7-20-1t is close to 2000 ppd improvment on a i7-920@ 4.0 on smp. and close to 2500 ppd on bigadv give or take a few points

Thanks for the info. I got in on the GT430 for $5 after rebate deal and might get it folding.

Any hints on what the original question was about? It appears video card related, but no information was provided for possible choices or even the actual nature of the question :(
