Memory and Core 2 Duo .

Well, I just bought a set of OCZ 2 x 1GB PC2 5400 4-4-4-12 Gold series off a member for an unbelievable price.

Anyways, I hear something about memory holding back overclocks..... I am looking at the E4300 or the E6300 ( suggestions? ) from newegg.

And a Gigabyte DS3 board. ( any incompatibility with the memory? )

Anyways, isn't there dividers or such on these new intel boards and chips? I mean on my AMD 939 system I had to bump the memory down to 150 and clock it up from there to get 3.1 out of my opty 144 with an 9x multiplier. And the memory hitting 260-270mhz.

Cant I just use a memory divider for the memory and clock it higher to stock or a little bit over to get more cpu mhz which would benefit more?

Would I get 3ghz+ outta a e4300 or e6300 with this memory ( assuming the chip can hit that high )

Also, the e4300 overclocks better on slower memory than the e6300?

What voltage does your memory need? If it's standard 1.8 volts you might as well try the E6300 since E6300 tends to overclock more than E4300.

I have case 5 DDR2 667 which uses 1.8 voltage and it does 850mhz easily.

If it needs more voltage you might as well stick to E4300.
