Mem or Core speed more important?

I've got a question and need help guys.
i have a sapphire x800 gt02 at 620 core/550 mem.
My friend has an identical card except his core craps out at 550 but his mem goes up to 625.
Is it worth the trade for me or is memory speed more important than the core speed?
 
Look into a volt mod on that memory.

I happen to have an x800GTO^2 right beside me :)

No CPU yet so I can't test it :(

Run 3DMark 05 and Aquamark03 on both and compare the results. Post them, I'm curious.

I cant remember where but I heard the the Mem speed is where your going to get results on overclocking...not to sure though.
 
When you have 12 or 16 pipelines and a 256-bit memory interface, your memory speed will play a big factor in any performance increases you may experience..

Even with only a 20mhz increase on memory speed on my Connect3D x800gto, I notice vast improvements in benchmarks....

But, your results may differ.. As someone mentioned.. benchmark both systems, and compare them.. tweak them, and benchmark them some more..

Report back; the forum would appreciate a verdict on this
 
the core is more important, because there are a lot of aspects in the GPU controlled by the frequency

even if you could get your memory up to the 600 or w/e the other person had, you wouldn't notice any real-world performance boost

there are may debates on the best way to go, and it is probably even out your memory and gpu, so you get the best of both

upping the memory clock will increase bandwidth, which can help in situations with heavy AA/AF
 
ok well i only have my card.
i will post benchmarks later with complete system specs.
i wish i still had my 7800 gts so i could do a big comparison on my opteron system.

opteron 144 at 300x9
gto2 unlocked at 600 core/550 mem

Thats prolly where I got it from I have been a member there since for a while, core does make sence being that is the part that I thought does all the transactions but it send all its info to the mem and you would want your mem to be fast to discharge its values and get more from the core. but like I said I am not sure.

Thanks for clarifying that, I always noticed though that I get better results from higher mem OC, but now I have some sort of perspective from another point of view
 
bah my gto2 crashes when it hits 520 core or 585 mem so i just run it at 520/560 stock cooling until i get my silencer 5 rev 2
