Hello all

I am in the process of getting a stepping stone upgrade. Instead of a complete overhaul I am getting a new Mobo, CPU, RAM and heatsink. The Megahalems I plan on getting will be fitted with a push/pull config with 2 120x38mm fans. Now, I am getting either a) P6T Deluxe v2 or b)EVGA classified 760 for my mobo and the RAM are these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231254&cm_re=gskill-_-20-231-254-_-Product Gskill tridents.

Will the heatsink fit with the 120x38mm fans without running into the RAM stick in the slot furthest to the left? Also all these parts are going into my Lian Li pc-x500

wait wait wait... mobo, cpu, ram, and heatsink ISNT a complete overhaul?

megahalems is about the same size is a true. if a true fits i don't see why a megahalems wouldn't...

With using 38mm deep fans, there is a good chance it won't fit. Get two high quality 25mm fans( Scythe GentleTyphoon comes to mind) and you'll have great cooling capacity. With using two fans, static pressure doesn't mean as much as only one.

The megahalems look like they fit just barely with those OCZ reapers with the p6t v2, that's great. Now the Megahalems on the classified... I posted a thread @ overclock.net and there's people saying the 38's megahalems will not fit east-west unless the 38 next to the RAM is configured to where it is above more than normal, resulting in a chunk of the bottom part of the heatsink not getting airflow. A 38 wont fit at the bottom part in a south-north configuration, but the north part will fit. Okay, that's informative to hear.

Are you pretty sure the 25's will fit okay in an east-west config SicKlown? I have mo problem with switching to 2 25's, I just need them to fit okay with the rest of the components.

If you're going with Megahalems and Classified, I'd go with 25mm fans, IF you are concerned about losing the ram slot.

Here's a pic to illustrate:

Yup judging from the product pic, your ram have tall heatsinks, so you'd need the 25mm fans to make em fit.

After looking a some posted pics with a board with a similar layout that had a megahalems mounted, I'm pretty sure. I'm not going to guarantee because I have no experience with a X58 board. With my AMD set-up, I had to mount the front fan a little offset, about a 3/16" higher up because of my over-sized ram. Sorry i can't give you a definitive answer though.

I am most likely going to go with 2 120x25mm fans now. But, I don't know what fans are good for heatsink use. I was going to go with slipstreams but I have read their static pressure is horrible for use with a heatsink, but they're good as case fans. What are good 25mm fans that offer good static pressure? Would a push 38mm fan with a 25mm pulling fan be a good idea or a bad one?

If you're using two fans in a push/pull, static pressure means much less. I'm using two Slipstreams and I compared them with two GentleTyphoons that an associate had, both at the same rpm, and had exactly the same temps. The Slipstream offer great performance for the price.
