Medium range cards.. 9800Pro vs 6600GT

Which one is better - by better I mean in terms of potential, and quality + framerate wise.

I know that the 9800pro is yesterday's technology, but in the meantime I am in the middle of purchasing a MSI 6600GT for $150, if you're interested in that. The reason is because I want to build another secondary computer, so I'm thinking of putting the 9800 pro in that while I use the 6600GT.

I don't really plan to overclock, because it's not my flavor of things.

However, looking at Tom's hardware, it shows that the 6600 is kind of similar to the 9800pro in some instances. But searching the net there isn't enough info about which serves better.

I know that HL2 is optimized for D3D, which is ATi's flavor, while Doom3 is for OpenGL, which is better for nvidia.

I don't really plan on playing either of those games much. Probably a few every now and then, but never for a long purpose.

I plan on really playing MMORPGS such as Final Fantasy XI / WOW/ etc. again during the summer.

I read that FFXI is direct3d based game, but recommends Geforce series cards. Not sure about WoW. I want to be able to run the games at atleast 1280x1024 at highest settings possible. Which card would be better capable of handling that?

Ah! Another one. the 9800pro is old technology, the 6600gt is new. The 6600GT is on par, or faster than.

As a former 9800Pro owner and current 6600GT (I have an MSI by the way) I can tell you that 6600GT is by far better. You cannot compare the one from the other. I even had my 9800 Pro flashed to XT and OC to 475/385 and still it didn't come to close to the 6600GT. Case and point, the 6600GT is the way to go.
