I'm looking for a replacement LCD for my two CRT monitors. I'm starting a new job that has me working from home, so I'm using it as an excuse to get rid of the two headache inducing, tubed monsters.

I'm looking for a 22-24" screen that does well at sRGB colour representation (say, minimum 95% coverage?). Obviously I want to stay away from TN panels here...

I need something that will still look good in low light, as my office is in the basement and chances are there will be late nights. I dunno if this is a concern but I've heard that some monitors suffer in dark rooms due to brightness/gamma issues.

I do a some gaming but it's really not my top priority. Frankly as long as the refresh rate is ~8ms I'll be happy :)

My price range is between $500-700 USD.

Here's my shortlist:

  • HP LP2475w - (i think the wide gamut might be a bad idea for sRGB, comments?)
  • Dell U2410
  • Dell 2209wa
  • Samsung 245T
  • Samsung F2380

Right now I'm leaning towards ordering 2 of the Dell 2209wa's. Is anyone else using these for RGB graphic development (web design etc)?

Any comments, or suggestions would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks!

get 2 * 2209wa. you will need 2 screens if you are serious about web dev.
1 is simply not productive. a typical day will be like this:

photoshop is opened for the design source files
(your choice of) code editor
maybe an additional text editor
ftp/ssh client
ie tester
firefox
safari
you will also likely to have explorer(s) open(file directory)

how many windows are opened? Mind you, quite a few of them need to be open quite big to be productive.

You will need 2 monitors

I wouldn't dream of working on less than 2 monitors. Especially for development purposes

My normal setup is a desktop with two monitors (the CRT's that I'm replacing) plus my laptop. The majority of my time is spent in Linux making full use of four virtual desktops, while using synergy to drive both systems off a single keyboard and mouse - I know how useful the extra screen real-estate is :p

If anyone can think of a killer reason for me to choose another monitor over the 2209 then I'll probably still get two of them instead... it will just take me longer to work up the cash.

How are the Dell 2209wa's for out of the box for calibration? A calibration kit is a must, however It'll probably be a few paychecks after buying the monitors before I pick one up.

Did you get it calibrated? What did you use and what were your settings on brightness, contrast and rgb? Did you do any test prints? ho do they look and who did you use?

For those questions, anyone may answer
