Is there a way to record from what is in the playback buffer? I was just watching live TV and saw a commercial that I wanted but I couldn't find a way to record it. I would rewind to the spot and hit record but it would only start recording from the current (live) spot.

Running Vista Media Center, BTW.

Interesting question. I don't think I can do this in BeyondTV either, as the buffer is in use by the OS to maintain a certain period of time of pre-played material. I wonder if there's any way to freeze the buffer, or save it to a file, and then edit it with something like VideRedo Plus, but I can't think of an option any any PVR software that allows this, or how to make it happen manually. It will be interesting to see what answers people come up with.

Does it automatically save what it is buffering?

If you change the buffer to something like 30 minutes then MCE will keep that much video in it's buffer so that when you press record it dumps that whole 30 minutes into a recorded TV file.

I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or what but I just tried that and got nothing. I started watching live TV and then five minutes later hit record. Waited one minute and then hit stop. The resulting video was only that one minute.

BTW, the default for the buffer is 30 minutes. I set it to 60.

Noticed this problem years ago after using Tivo and switching to Media Center.
