Media Center Q's

I've begun ripping my DVD collection and when I place a DVD in the drive media center brings up a nice picture of the DVD and the story line bio etc behind it. All great, but when I rip a dvd without compression with DVD Shrink it doesn't want to pick up all that extra information. Is there a way to manually copy the info into my ripped copy?

I'm running Vista 64bit Ultimate.

If needed I can put a screen shots up.

Anyone? Help is appreciated for any of you that use Media Center. Maybe there is a better tool for ripping that will insert said information in media center?

Yes and no.

The best tool for ripping (to me) is CloneDVD2 combines with AnyDVD.

For filling in that metadata, you want to google for DVD Library manager.

Here's a how-to I created somewhere else:

First of all, you'll need Vista home premium or higher to even have the Media Center program.

Second, you'll have to goto this entry in your registry: (in search type 'regedit')

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\DvdSettings

..and changing the value of 'ShowGallery' from “Play” to 'Gallery' (by right clicking ShowGallery).

Next time you open Media Center, you'll have a new option that says "DVD Library"

You'll need DVD Library Manager (That's a zip file) to change the meta data of your movies, including the Cover Art.

But even before that, you'll need a way to rip and burn your movies to your HDD, or external HDD, like I am.

I use Slysoft's CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD. AnyDVD removes copy protection on the fly and CloneDVD2 lets you rip toyour HDD or even another DVD.

Eitherway, rip the DVD to your HDD, then configure Media Center to look at that folder to add movies.

You get the idea.

Don't get excited. You still have to add your cover art and metadata, or else you'll see blank squares.

So go ahead and close media center after you add the folder to watch.

Now, go back to DVD Library Manager

Select the movie, Hit Edit Details, the SEARCH AMAZON. Forget about IMDB. They suck as a resource.

Once you find your movie, select it, save out. If you want to use different cover art, you can search around and drag/drop it into the window, hit save CoverArt, and then save again.

That's what it should look like now.

Then fire up Media Center again.

Eventually, you'll see a Gallery like this:
