Mechwarrior?

Yea, Microsoft pretty much ended Battletech PC gaming.

No, no, I'm not trying to be a "hater" or bash them... but it's true. They canned Mech5 because Mech4 wasn't some blockbuster hit... and they realized it's easier to sell giant robots smashing things in an arcade setting on a console. Hence Mechassault.

To be honest, though... no Mechwarrior game ever truly captured the feel of being in a 'Mech. Sure, Mech 2 and 3 felt pretty immersive back in the day, and Mech4 certainly was fun if you ignored all of the "little quirks" like floaty JJs and sticky lasers... but none of the games were truly immersive. I wish I could try Steel Battalion.. but I'm not exactly rich.

At any rate, it would be a godsend if someone would make a brand-spanking-new 'Mech sim game for the PC.. but as long as there's cash in rehash FPS, RTS, and MMOs, it ain't gonna happen. There's www.is3025.com , who're trying to rebuild/upgrade MPBT:3025, but it's been "In development" for years and they are pretty tight lipped about beta releases, etc.

I never really liked the Heavy Gear games...I think they were a bit too fast paced, it just didn't feel like a multi-ton robot walking around. I think for overall feel, MW2 had it down the best. Though I guess I have to disagree with some of the guys in this thread, in that I really enjoyed MW4...it was pretty, and it had the MW2 feel to it.

I dream of being able to play a HeavyGear vs MechWarrior game someday. Heh. Danger Level (Or whatever rating HG uses) vs Tonnage :D 10,000 DangerPoints = 100 Tons. I'd like to see a squad of Cheetas rollerblading around a Daishi.

Heck i've even made a music video combining the cutscenes from HG1, HG2, MW3 and MW4 using one of the tracks from HG1. Pretty good too if i do say so myself :p

I'd love to see a merchwarrior meets heavygear game with both singleplayer open ended gameplay and multiplayer.

I loved both series of games.

I just wish we had a new mechwarrior game that leans toward the sim aspect and puts in more immersion then what the older mechwarrior games did.

IMO one of the more immersive ones was mechwarrior 3, I'll never forget the first time running through a village and squashing people under my mech, or taking down a madcat by it's feet and watching it crash to the ground just as my mech started overheating.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could use the steel battalion controller and remap controls to it? Throw that awesome controller, havok physics, unreal3 graphics, MMO size and persistence, and some really powerful computers then we would be talking....

Sigh, we should get a community project going. Hell, take a look at www.fl-tw.com/infinity. Now thats something of epic proportions that we need to immitate.

I forget where I saw it, most likely xbox-scene, but someone made a PC driver for the steel battalion controller.

really? how would you hook it up? with one of those usb to xbox plug things?
and do you have a link tothe driver by any chance?

afaik, the xbox controller uses a standard USB connection with the exception that it's a different plugin. I could be totally wrong though, that's just what I heard a while back. (If you splice a standard USB plug on the controller instead of the xbox connector, it would work on the pc....)

I never bothered verifying that though

after doing some searching I found out you are right you can just splice the conector to a usb plug and it should work, I havent been able to figure out where to get the drivers tho, I found some sight that I think might have them but its all in japanese so i dont know and I downloaded something but I dont know if its the drivers or how I would use them,

also is there any kind of emulator for xbox games like bleem! for the playstation that they had back in the day?

My personal favorite was MEchwarriors 2 and 3. both were awesome. The ghost bears legacy was good.

Games work with throttle and joystick control. we had midnight matches that lasted for hours.

i miss those days. wish i stil had people to play with. i come from the original RPG Mechwarrior table game.

anyhow. MW2+3+4 did good for the MW franchise. some small issues. but no game is perfect. what more simulation do you want?

i dont want it to the point it becomes NOT fun. who the hell wants to worry about every nut and bolt?

and for th record- MadCat III > All

I got Mech 3 with my Force Feedback Sidewinder. It was amazing. I loved that game. There's something about Mechwarrior series that's just very rewarding when you unload everything into a guy and pick him to pieces.

It's like weapons feedback you don't ever feel in any other game. ALPHA-STRIKE!!!

And well, sadly the MW series is in the freezer, just like most non-FPS sci-fis like space sims.

You want a super mech? How about a Daishi loaded with LBX's. I can take down another Daishi in one hit easy :p *BANG* dead *BANG* dead *BANG* dead *BANG* dead ... Excellent for free for alls. Not much ammo, but at one kill per hit, i won't mind dying once in a while =P

Even better: Daishi with Two LRM20s (and two extra rocket bins), Two LRM10s, One ER Large Laser, Two Meduim Pulse Lasers, two ER small lasers and two PPCs. Trust me, it all fit and took a long time to overheat since I loaded it up with heatsinks...I skimped on the engines though and made up for the lask of speed with jump jets.

I got so addicted t othe games when i was younger i had dreams of building a full blown cockpit in my room just like they have at the Battletech centers, Has anyone ever played on one, me and 7 friends would rent the place out by the hour, Full enclosed cockpits, radar moniters between your laps, full system of floor pedals, throttle controls and main joystick all with programmable buttons for alpha strikes and the like, damn i miss it!
