I was always a fan of the mechwarrior (or mechs in general) games and was wondering if anyone knew if there were plans to make another one?

thanks

The Dave & Busters here in Houston has a Mechwarrior 'LAN', complete with sitdown cockpits and the like. Last time I was there, they'd updated to a newer, still PC-based, version and were running Alienware boxes.

Very cool! Release it to the public for retail...I will buy it ;)

Just for the uninitated, what was the most recent addition to the PC Mechwarior line? And what expansions do you need to get the full effect?

Damn. That was 2 1/2 years ago and not another word since. I loved Mechwarrior myself. It was a nice change of pace from the regular stuff and I always looked forward to the next release.
Really thought we'd hear something by now.

yeah I was talking about something pc based, and its been forever since mechwarrior 4 came out.

I really hope they make a new one, I also read some about a mod for bf2 in the mech warrior universe but I havent seen anything about it in awhile

Mechwarrior mercenaries i think was the last one out, but please correct me if i'm wrong.....

Mechwarrior brings back some fond memories of the uber elite MCGA graphics :p

those jenner's sucked balls...but the locust on the other hand could really hand it out. I remember taking down Battlemasters and Marauders with that little can. The battlemaster was too tall to be able to see down at the locust right against it's legs, and the Marauder made a perfect garage with those overhung PPC cannons on each side.

yes..they need to make another one. A re-make of the original would be an absolute blast.

The only part of the "simulater" part that the xbox variations of the mech games is missing is the overheating aspect. It's not implemented right also- why o why don't they have group fire enabled on the xbox?. Part of the fun in the orginal MechWarrior and MechWarrior 2 was actually trying to keep your mech from overheating when linking all fire for more damage.

Werd. What a great series of games. MW2 actually started me up on PC gaming. Do you guys remember that you could actually pop the MW2 CD into your CD player, and all of the soundtracks would play? I thought it was nifty.

I've played the old BT simulators in arcades before...those were fun. MW3...I hated it, even though the targeting seemed more plausible, it just didn't feel right being able to move a mouse around like that.

Battles with MW were always more tactical than reactionary like a lot of FPS games these days. Environment and terrain actually figured into the equation. If you were on a hot planet, do you load up with heatsinks and a few energy weapons and worry about overheating, or just cram in a boatload of projectile weapons, but have the possibility of ammo shortages or explosions?

I still remember shutting down in lakes...waiting for an enemy mech to crest the hill...mmm...gogo extra cooling capacity on laser platforms.

Classic fat microsoft buying up popular titles and then sitting on them not doing a damn thing.

big MW3 fan here but I played all the MW4 titles as well...microsoft ruined it IMHO.

I did hear there was a movie in the makings though. Mabey that will inspire microsoft to whore it out a little more.

OH and the mechassult titles are an insult to the MW players of the world.....hell I thought they dumbed it down too much in MW4.

Oh yeah the Dave and Busters in Ontario California had the simulaters too, lemme see if I can dredge up some pics.

Still hoping for the next installment. I played MW4:Mercenaries online and it rocked! Especially when you find a decent lancemate.

Ah the dreaded words. Ever tried loading up a Madcat with lasers in MW3 and firing them all at once? :D :D :D

And there's a trick in MW4 that lets me loadup a Highlander with PPC's and continiously fire them without overheating =P

@Deity
There's already a movie for it, i think i saw a trailer a while back on TV of a madcat plowing through some trees (Or it could just be another robot movie that looked like a madcat). There's also a cartoon series.

As for the simulators, there's a site that sells cockpit setups for PC users. Lost the link tho.

They could make a KILLER Mechwarrior game with all of the advances in PC technology there has been since Vengance came out. They could probably even work in the deformable terrain players have always wanted. That would be  .

A joystick/throttle/rudder system would be perfect.. especially if you could separate it like that throttle / stick setup Saitek makes. I can't recall a good rudder system though. Anywho... I'd mod it into my recliner, wear a beer helmet, and be all set. :D

In MW4 I'd get one of those assult mechs with 6 ER PPCs and jump jets. That was ownage.

I use to be a serious MW player, but got caught up in ladder play and the game actually stressed me out. BF2 hasn't gotten that way for me yet, and I doubt it ever will.

Cockpit Specs
http://battletech.rpg.hu/battlemech_cockpit.html

One of the sites that sells cockpit rigs.
http://www.proto-type.jp/en/products/

There's another site with cheaper cockpits, and others with complete kits (joysticks, pedals, etc.) but can't find the links tho. Lost the bookmarks :( One of them plugs into the PS/2 (Buttons everywhere!).

EDIT: PS/2 as in your PC's keyboard (Not to be confused with PlayStation2) :p

"Critical hit, Heat Sink" Loved MW2. Never got 3, picked up 4 when I got my Saitek x52. They have a profile for it on Saitek's website. Sadly, my Win2k Box died and I reformatted in XP. Never re-installed it...but I will soon...

The franchise was awesome until MechWarrior 4 came out. Basically they cut out all the simulation, planning, and tactical elements of the game and boiled it down to an ADD lightshow. Then those 'Mech games on the XBox were even worse. They weren’t even Mechwarrior games; they were first person shooters with robots. Basically they destroyed what they had and I'll never buy one again unless they loose all the retard stuff and go back to the simulation days.

MW2 was the shizzle fo rizzle. I remember playing that on my P133 with a 4mb Diamond Viper (or whatever it was at the time, pre-true 3D cards ;)) Couple years later I bought a new version had new textures and real 3D support or something and it ran great on my K6-2 and Voodoo3000.

Did anyone ever play the Mechwarrior Solaris game that used to be on the AOL multiplayer games thing? It was a real 3D MMORPG (sorta) and you could set up and play lots of mechs. Man, I logged tons of hours on that game until AOL started making their gaming area a pay by the hour service...

thanks for posting the link, but is it me or are those "cockpits" more like glorified chairs with sideblinders for $2000++?

Tell me about it. Even now i still wonder if it's even possible to do a decent mech simulation on a console. The pace of MW is way too slow and cumbersome for console gamers. There was one that came out that came with it's own joystick tho, but a little expensive.

Ah the joys of a Madcat Mk II and 2 MRM 40's. Nothing survives that.

Give me two Hellhounds and in a city settings and we'll take you down easy :D

You want a super mech? How about a Daishi loaded with LBX's. I can take down another Daishi in one hit easy :p *BANG* dead *BANG* dead *BANG* dead *BANG* dead ... Excellent for free for alls. Not much ammo, but at one kill per hit, i won't mind dying once in a while =P

Yeah, they're kind of a letdown aren't they :D Any decent carpenter can do that in his garage. If you look enough tho, you should be able to find an enthusiast site that'll give you one with the works. And if you're willing, you can build your own, like one guy did. He took the PS/2 route, ripped off a keyboard and used that to build his cockpit. Add some CH joysticks (Their line has the ability to combine several controllers into one) and he got his dream rig ^_^

My brother used to play pretty regularly, NBT league or something

From what I saw in MW4:Mercs it seemed like that community was probably the best online gaming community as far as adult professionalism. Rarely would you see the little kids griping and calling people "noobs" all the time, and the people at MekTek made some very interesting addions to the game. The level of involvement in the community was much better than any FPS's and I mainly play FPS's.

I played MechCommander on mplayer up until gamespy bought them out and ruined the game. And MC2 was a just a shame, single player was "playable" multiplay nope.

Ahhhh! I loved the Solaris MMORPG on AOL =) One of the few reasons we stayed with AOL for a while. I was a Hpt. Comm for House of Marik, managed to work my way up far enough that a decent amount of people had to listen to me LOL. That game was a huge amount of fun, especially when you played with your House, so tactics could be used.

I remember the 5v5 and 4v4 matches. Grab 1 or 2 assualt mechs up front (Atlas) to soak up the early LRMs from the other side...and then 2 Cats behind them to jump jet up and launch the LRM20s, and then back down behind the Atlas', all the while an Assassin mech is ripping apart the opposing Atlas mech's legs.

If you have a bunch of friends and you want a very accurate reproduction of the Classic Battletech board game, try out MegaMek: http://megamek.sourceforge.net/idx.php?pg=main

There's a group of about 5 of us that play it at work regularly. It even includes a map editor and there are a few online campaigns you can participate in.

The graphics are a little on the poorish side and it's not 3d, but nothings better than a well timed last-ditch-effort DFA at your buddy that ends up winning the match.

Needs the FASA elements for sure..

I would like to see realistic Missions that go in to the 2-4 hour Mark each.

Imagine MW5 on a 42 Inch Screen.. Or even Projection!!
5.1 or better sound with the Subwoofer thumping on every footstep!

ahhh!.... mplayer... those were the days, I remember playing AvP on there when it first came out and getting owned by everyone because i was trying to play with a joystick for some reson( yeah dont ask me why)

well I still have some hope for the bf2 mech simulation mod, but other then that it seems that micro$oft has taken one if its billion dollar mega dumps on the series.... but maybe something good will come of the series in the future

I had that game(steel battalion) and it was expensive (like $200 for the game and controler) and I didnt really like it either, it was pretty good I guess, but no mechwarrior....

I miss mechwarrior...sniff sniff...

I remember playing daily back in the registery in 94 with netmech....I was apart of of House kurita's D.E.S.T squad...and had my own lance. It was so much fun. The community in mechwarrior is extremly fun to be around. No little kiddies throwing a cheating fit or anything like that. Now we did come across a hot head here and there who thought he was badass...but that soon stoped as he got owned everytime...was great..

They need to make a mech5....they have to...it's just the RIGHT thing to do...And it would be so badass to see them use an engine like doom3's or Unreal3's....maybe even a FEAR engine...who knows...but i tell you this...it needs to happen.

Does anyone know of a way to get MS to get a move on it? lol

Heh, I was a Hpt. Comm too... can't remember what house, Steiner, I think... 20th Acturian Guard, so whoever that was. I loved to get in the little Jenner or (darn, can't remember what the other little Mech I liked was, it looked like a sprite almost) load up four medium lasers, and just be able to run circles around the Cats and take them out in one shot to their weak-spots.

You know, if someone made a MMORPG like that again, I'd jump in in a heartbeat.

Yeah, Mechwarrior 2 was about the first game i ever played on the PC, it was AWSOME.!!! But, it was the sepcial 3d Rage Edtion, So you have to have an ATI 3D Rage card to play it, so URRRRRRGGGGGGG!!!! I cant play it on my computer now, Mech 3 was pretty good (i still even play it now and then), i tryed 4, didnt like it much, But 2, it was AWSOME, i just wish that Microsoft, even if some independent person, remade it with a better graphics engine and stuff, even just making a "xx Years of Celebration" thing, and just rereleased the origonal, so it would play on my comp, lol. But yeah, the Mechwarrior series was great.

Well, I wish their were more space flight sims and mech games too. Having grown up with Wing Commander and Mechwarrior style games as staples, today's FPS/MMORPG game market is starting to stink.

The Saitek stick and throttle pairs have been on my desk near constantly for the last 10 years, only comming off to be replaced with the newest incarnation. About the only game they get any workout in anymore is BF2.

There are a couple interesting Mech games for the XBox and some new ones for the 360 including that Steel Battalion with the huge $200 joystick.

While it's not MW: Give a nod to Heavy Gear 1 + 2.

I loved the mechwarrior games. Too bad simulations are dead :( . Who knows maybe they'll make a comeback :).
