Woo, my best game yet. ECM Streak Commando with xl195 and two points shy of max armor. Since going to this setup I have had 3 games and a total of 10 kills and 12 assists. I stick around my heavies and assaults to provide ECM cover and then wade in and out of the fights that they initiate hitting the enemy's rear armor. It's crazy as shit sometimes

How are you guys playing? I want in on the action.

edit
never mind i fingered it out

This Commando build is so much fun. I've had the craziest, most unlikely victories in an online match in recent memory in the last day. Speed is everything!

Well, speed is king right now because of lagshield and lack of collisions.

If they ever fix the netcode so lights aren't impossible to hit while moving and collisons are back in, they shouldn't be as deadly.

CQB is a fucking nightmare with any movement speed because you'll warp all over the place while the game tries to figure out wtf to do with you. In the open though, I have rarely seen any issues with lag

I'll try it out tomorrow Hawken goes open but the simulation angle of Mechwarrior has always been it's greatest strength. Plus, taking down a 100 ton Atlas with a 25 ton Commando is one of the most satisfying moments in gaming I can think of. I'm looking forward to having more 'Mech related options!!!!

I'm digging the free bonus 50% C-Bills and XP right now...at least for the 24 hours that it is activated. Saving up for Dragon 1C for a 4xLL or 2xLL and 2xERLL setup after getting rid of my Jenner

For anyone who has thought about playing this game, the patch released today makes it extremely accessible. You're no longer stuck grinding for many matches before buying and customizing your first mech. I just started a few days ago and it's been a lot of fun. Development seems to be moving as they've addressed the C-Bill (earned in-game $) situation and just added a conquest mode and new map.

Yup, if they keep this rate of development then the game should launch at a pretty good state in February.

The only thing that really needs to be improved right now is the netcode (which they're working on). Once they nail that it, this should be one of the better F2P out there.

The Stalker is a walking death machine.

Alpha strike of 93 points.

550~ armor.

I hit an awesome with yellowish armor in the right torso, ripped it off in 1 alpha :D

The Stalker is a lot of fun. My first assault mech and I'm loving it. I'm running a STK-5S with 4 large lasers, 3 SRM4 and 2 AMS (because holy fuck are LRMs back in vogue).

Lots of people are poo-pooing some of the other varients, but they seem decent too. The 3H has 20 missile tubes on it's arm, so it can actually fire off a full volley of LRM20s at once and punch through AMS cover. The narc launcher hardpoint on the 5M apparently only has one tube and fires the LRMs one at a time :D. Seems like it (STK-3H) could be good with ERLL/ERPPC and LRM20s for long range support. The 3F apparently has 85* torso twist (vs 60* for the rest), so it could be pretty nasty as a brawler even with the fewer hard points.

The last few patches seemed to have really improved the games' performance. Much fewer CTDs and disconnects, many are reporting higher frame rates, and though not everybody is entirely happy with the new economy, it has appeared to removed suicide farming entirely.

Just wish they'd revamp the pricing structure for cosmetics. The phranken skin looks freaking sweat on the Stalker - like a tyrannosaurus rex - but 750 MC (about 3-4 dollars US) for a one time use (you lose it when you change it) skin is ridiculous. Make it a permanent unlock for that chassis, including it's variants and I'm all over it.

I got my ass utterly wrecked when I turned a corner in my quad-large laser Dragon 1C and found myself face to face with a Stalker sporting 5(!!!) large pulse lasers. I lasted halfway into the second burst from full armor.

Having bought a Commando, Jenner, and Dragon I understand how to combat those models pretty well, especially in my Commando (omfg I love that mech.) The Stalker is a pretty goddamn powerful opponent with a vast amount of configurations possible and despite having killed a bunch already there are a number of times when I can't seem to make a dent in the beast.

I'll say with the new patch I've been getting more CTDs, Yellow Screens and HUD removals than before. My framerates will take a nosedive from time to time for no apparent reason either. I don't get it :\

Other than that, this has been a solid update and I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing how the Orion turns out!!

... wait till you run into one sporting 6 PPCs, sure it won't be able to fire twice, but if he has good aim he won't need to.

Luckily I was dead before I encountered that particular setup.

It's a terrifying mech, dammit

The Stalker has limited torso twist... if you can flank them, they are in a lot of trouble. Of course, the trouble is surviving long enough to maneuver behind them lol.

This. In my DC Atlas I can usually get the better of most Stalker pilots 1 on 1, but the key is movement (torso blocking is a must, besides the Mech movement); Stalkers are abysmal at the turn game, and they can overheat easily w/attempts to alpha. One miss, and it's shutdown/beatdown time! Otherwise they slap you silly. I've had much better results killing Stalkers (ok, well practically anything, including lights) with my 360XL engine'd Dragon -- it's a real beast. Speed of a light, but with more armor and more dakka. ;)

Business6, sorry to hear that bro. The new patch has been real good to me -- only bug I've encountered is the "HUD disappearing" bug (once) which I promptly logged out of. And FPS has gone up by several frames; but, more importantly, it is now a lot more smooth, and I rarely break under 20 FPS (only during the most intense firefights -- usually all-out assault + light fights involving 8 or more Mechs).

Best of all, the AFK/farmers seem to have mostly taken off for greener pastures -- only saw 6 (combined) since the patch. Looks like Pirahna did a good job w/the new payment system; I'm consistently making more C-bills now that I don't have to pay up big when my Mech gets trashed (yes I'm well aware of the pre-patch repair strategies).

I bought a Stalker the other night. I'm starting to really like it. The torso twist does suck... It's a bit better with those basic efficiencies for it, which don't take long to get. I decided to put a standard 300 engine in it, really helps speed up the twisting too now. It does 57kph and has near max armor. Thing is a beast so far, 4 SRM6 and 4 med lasers tear stuff up. Unlike most stalkers, heat isn't too bad either. It's at 1.26 or so.

Isn't there one model of the Stalker that has a greater degree of twist than the others? I know they have to pretty much come to a stop to be able to avoid making a turn not seen since the days of the Titanic but I swear I have only limited chances to flank them properly. It seems as though I'll either have that "oh shit" moment when both myself and an enemy Stalker go around a corner and meet face to face or I can't engage them without having 2-3 other mechs peppering the hell out of me. Using that empty right arm in my Dragon (300xl) as a shield has absolutely saved my ass on a few occasions, though.

Tungt88 I deleted and reinstalled the game and things seem to be doing better. I certainly don't want that to be the solution to problems that should otherwise be addressed, but for now it will do. I'm also happy with how the payment system has turned out---it is a lot more consistent and damn, getting 7 assists in a game is wonderfully profitable.

The 3F has 85* torso twist, compared to 60* on the other variants. It's not clear if this is intended or something that got overlooked.

I run mine (5S) with 4 large lasers, 3 SRM4s, dual AMS 2 w/ 2 tons ammo, a standard 300 engine with endo steel internals and 18 dual heatsinks. I forgot how many tons of SRMs I'm carrying... 3 or 4 I think. I had to shave a little bit of armor to get it all to fit, think I have 480 armor currently. Thinking about dropping a ton of SRM ammo in order to boost up the armor a bit more. Works well for me, I keep my large lasers on chain fire in weapon group 6 (selected), use weapon group 1 to fire off whatever lasers are ready when I have a solid shot, and set the SRMs to weapons group 2. Heat management is key, but I find it pretty manageable with the lasers on chain fire. Sometimes I go balls deep and overheat for the kill shot. Totally worth it.

Well I thought I liked my Dragon 1C (4xLL) but this 5N with Gauss (5t ammo) and 2 Medium Lasers and an AMS is an incredible amount of fun. Very rewarding when you time and place the shot just right against a harassing light mech or any mech in general, of course, and get the kill shot.

I swapped over the 300XL from my 1C for now but don't have any upgrades to the chassis so this has been extremely cheap to try this build out. I'd like to get DHS and switch up to Large Lasers for a bit more mid range potency but overall this is something I'm happy I experimented with. Not sure if I can really free up that tonnage, though :\

Best round yet with the Dragon 5n with Gauss, LL and ML combo. Got lucky with a few opponents choosing to attack an ally but I saved two teammates from certain death then we bashed the final guy. Crazy round and we were down a mech from the start.

Saving up for a 3rd variant!

I assume this is now the official MWO thread....so....has anyone gotten SLI working yet?

Trying to play at 8020x1440 on one card doesn't work very well....At medium settings I get around 30 FPS.

There is no support for either SLI or crossfire at the moment.

Which is pretty stupid when you think about it. It is a Nvidia "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" title.

Hawken went open beta on Dec. 12th and Nvidia had a SLI profile out for it in the Dec. 17th drivers. MWO open beta hit on Oct. 29th and there still isn't a SLI profile...

anyone still playing? Whats the state of the game?

Thinking about trying it

Yeah there's still plenty of people playing. They've vastly improved the netcode and performance of the game, overhauled some UI elements and in 2 weeks a new map and mech is being added. PGI is very open about their plans and development process.

I still play from time to time. Though once far cry 3 / Hitman absolution Most of my free time went towards those games. Now I'm playing dota 2 like a boss. MWO is reserved for times when my steam friends are afk or not online.

Do you still bounce off of buildings and trees are non destructable? Mmmmm no thanks.

They should have used BF3 engine, made mechs and fuck ton of fun of being able to blow everything to shit.

ummm yea because the cryengine 3 doesn't do env destruction..... ?

And only EA can use Frostbite 2, so it's not like it was a possibility anyway.

So is anything like mercs before the pr1 patch fugged it all up.
