...are so awesome.

I just bought the CM Storm Quickfire Pro after looking at it for months. I was worried that it wouldn't be worth the 80 or so bucks but I am so impressed by the difference just by the feel alone. I used a Logitech G15 since 2007. Really glad I finally got a mechanical keyboard. I figured it would be worth it since I do a lot of typing and it doesn't hurt that it's good for gaming too.

Nice, yeah I just got a filco with blacks and a CM QuickFire Rapid with blues. I want to try the browns because while I like the black for gaming, I'm not a fan for programming work. the blues are AWESOME, but probably too loud for my roommates.

Yeah, I just bought the Logitech G710+ for similar reasons. I love the Cherry MX Brown switches :)

Glad you enjoy the Cherry brown switches.
I just got a Rosewill RK-9000BR and couldnt be happier.
It really is a huge improvement over a generic keyboard. Better typing feel and response.

I have a CMstorm with blues, and I LOVE the feel/sound!
Definitely not roommate-friendly =P

Yeah they are pretty loud but I almost don't care. If I could I would take it to campus and plug it into one of their computers and type a 3000 word essay. It would be the best time I had writing an essay, but everyone would be pissed. I'm one of those who emphasize each space. *BLAM BLAM BLAM

I had the mental image of campus police storming the computer lab following reports of gunshots being heard and that thoroughly amused me.

As for that new CM Storm Trigger with Green switches, I'd love to try that out. I love my Blues and have played with Reds, Browns, and Blacks and figure it would be interesting to try out switches that require that much force. I mean, I grew up on Model M buckling springs so if my five year old self could actuate them, surely being twenty years older I should be able to as well.

Just swapped my Logitech G19 for a Qpad MK-85 with Cherry Blacks.
I find the keyboard really small compared to what I had, so its taking some getting used to.
Also the action of the key press is way lower then i'm used to, so sometimes end up typing double letters, as I didn't think I hit the key hard enoiugh.
Once I get used to it i'm half thinking of getting the logitech G710+ as its quieter

The G710+ is only any quieter because it comes with o-rings pre-installed, it's a simple and cheap mod.

Its not just that. Its the key spacing as well.
I've been using logitechs for years.
I'm having to pay far more attention to what keys i'm hitting with the qpad at the moment. quite annoying

The key spacing on the Logitech G710+ should be similar to Qpad MK-85, it's not the same as their old membrane based keyboards. I can't see Logitech splurging on redesigned Cherry MX keycaps for their G710+; I mean it could be the case, but I'm skeptical here seeing the price they slap on their normal membrane "gaming" keyboards. Side-by-side comparisons also show that spacing looks similar to other plate based Cherry MX keyboards, though this could just be a problem with perception.

edit:
This is awesome, where did you get this....did you make it?

Have been looking at the corsair k90, opinions? I really like the side row of keys

I forget the site, but there's a person that custom makes thoes keyboards in a few different flavors. They're really neat, but the pricing is a bit out there for me.

I got a Corsair K60 for Christmas and its so awesome. It has actually improved my gameplay.

It took me a couple weeks to get used to it though. The biggest problem I have is that I rest my ring finger on the "A" key and sometimes start strafing when I don't intend to since the keys are so damn sensitive.

The other problem I have is that since I rest that ring finger in the upper left of the key, my finger was actually dragging along the caps lock when I typed. My last keyboard had a stepped caps lock, so I never had the issue until now. I popped the caps lock key off for now. I plan on ordering a custom caps lock key from one of the various sites around to replace it. If I can't get a stepped caps lock, I will just get a regular square key instead. I just can't have it sit flush with the "A" key like it does now.

I just got some blank keycaps for my QFR =D
Figured this was as good a place as any to share.

I got the caps from a user on the Geekhack forums. They were around $35 shipped.
They're the "PBT" keycaps, so the quality of the plastic is better than the factory ABS ones.

I'm very happy with the results.

Being PBT doesn't necessarily make them higher quality than your standard ABS, the reason most prefer PBT to ABS is because it doesn't "shine" over time like ABS does (normally creating a displeasing aesthetic with some keys being shiny while others are not); albeit they do also feel a bit differently as well, which is another reason some prefer PBT to ABS and vice versa.

I have to put my $0.02 in for the Unicomp (IBM) keyboards with the buckling springs. Nothing like it, and as an upside, you could bludgen someone to death with the Unicomp if you were in imminent danger. :D Their customer service is top notch as well.

Downside is no backlighting, but these things are bests. Depending what I'm doing, I'm between that keyboard and my DAS Pro S (both have Mac key layouts but standardly come with PC layouts).

Something that i pulled out of server racks that will be decommissioned.

Still got 1 more, in use actually. Soon as i get one keyboard dried and assembled it's time to clean the last one :p
Couple years in a server rack and they're dusty, reallllly dusty.

I am using one of these right now. $2.50 at a thrift store. love it.

Lucky lucky, awesome find, haha.

I'm using a Model M myself, thrift store find (required washing the keys a lot). I'm a big fan. I just wish for a Windows key once in a while - I'm considering getting one of those left-handed keyboard (like the Razor one or the Logitech G19) to have a left-handed d-pad (handy for retro games / RTS games that use the arrow keys) and hopefully a Windows key replacement.

KBC Poker w/ MX Clears, 62g Springs, & Stainless Steel Plate soon to be in a CNC Pure Aluminum Case. Still waiting for Thick Blue Cherry Legend (Black) & Hangul Legends (Red) set to arrive.

God**** I was looking for a set of Cherry Clears for a long time before I went buckling spring. How much did that baby set you back if you don't mind my asking?

Same thing here with my DAS S Pro -- only it's my pinky on the CTRL key, which can cause some real ****ing chaos depending what OS/App you are in... :)

My Unicomp (a.k.a. Model M, but I think they skimped on material I remember my PC/XT keyboard being quite a bit heavier, like head-of-an-axe heavier.) has no such problem but has ugly white and grey ("pearl and stone") keycaps, but they will never wear out due to the dye sublimination or laser cutting or whatever they do to make the letters on the keys. I also have their "keyboard condom" since my last couple of Razers fell victim to my Mtn Dew addiction.

I am a sad individual.

CTRL+ESC is the Windows Equivalent, otherwise there are utilities that can remap keys -- let's say you never use that ~ key, or you never use PrintScreen, you can make the key of your choice the Windows key.

Also 2 things:

Tell me about these "left handed keyboards" -- first I have heard of them. (I am a leftie, but shoot with my right - go figure -- dominant eye). Are key orders changed or??

And if you ever replace that thrift store Model M unit, PM me, I will make your thrift store trip worth it for you. $$$$.

One of the attorneys I work with has a lefty with MX blues. Nice board, but a bit off. lol

Badly worded on my part. I mean like a Razer Nostromo or a Logitech G13 - for the left-hand side of the keyboard.

I did find a good model M2 once, but it fizzled out with the capacitor problem those are famous for after about 5 minutes of use. :( I stole a spring to fix a bent one on my Model M though, and kept some keycaps from it, so, got my $2 worth of value.

Ctrl-Esc doesn't really work (try hitting CTRL-ESC-right arrow to toggle a window from screen to screen).

I should look into a remap though - I could swap one of the F key buttons out for a Windows key.

Sorry for the late reply. I paid ~$130 for the board itself (Not from WFD) and chose the following customizations: Brand new Poker, stainless steel plate, clear switches, 62g gold Korean springs, Pink switch stickers, & Magenta LED.
I later traded an item to WhiteFireDragon in exchange for a bunch of mods (WASD Cluster LED. dremeled switch tops with leds, so that I can remove them to change stems/springs without any desoldering, and a whole lot of other stuff).
Needless to say I'm very happy with it and can't wait to put it in a Pure CNC aluminum case along with the Hangul caps I mentioned in my last post.
