Hi all,

My Steam library has gotten to the point where I have to play the uninstall/reinstall game ... my 160GB SSD is down to under 3GB free. I'm looking to pick up either a 1 or 2TB drive so I can install most/all of my Steam games.

I know the Samsung 1TB F3 drive used to be the go-to drive for this -- is that still the case or has Seagate changed the dirve? Any other suggestions?

I am running a bit older system with drives. I got media on a 2TB and dedicated a 500GB WD blue to the steam task. So far it works very well, it is a 7200 RPM.

I have a sammy HD204UI that is the newer seagate model. It works great and benches near what other people have posted, I have the 1TB at work and its pretty fast. I would recommend finding either a 500GB or a 1TB probably a WD Black to keep your speed up.

The reviews on that Hitachi scare me a little.

Is a 1tb wd black worth the $20 premium over the Samsung f3?

I would get the WD black. Has 5 year warranty very reliable. Dropped my laptop while it was running 4ft on a concrete floor. Still running no bad sectors. Laptop drives are pretty fast get over 100MB/s

The Blacks are overpriced at this point - they aren't nearly as fast as some of the other drives out now. They haven't been updated in a while.

That is true wd black drives are are lagging behind still faster then most. The extra money pretty much goes towards a long warranty. For a 5 year wd blacks are cheapest.

The reviews on that Hitachi scare me a little.

The Hitachi failure rate reported on Newegg reviews is 100% due to Newegg's handling and packing. Buy the Hitachi somewhere else in a retail box (if you can find it.)

I think I'm gonna go ahead with a 2 TB 7200 rpm WD black. Newegg has them for $170 after promo code. Might not be THE fastest anymore, but I'm mostly just after reliability and something faster than a green drive. The fact that the WD blacks have 5 year warranties is a plus too =)

Overall I rate my 1.5TB Black as possibly the best drive I ever purchased. Going on 4 years now without a hitch. Fast and reliable.A little overpriced, but the 5 year warranty is awesome.
