So I finally decide to sleeve my new PSU, and MurderMod is out of stock. Are there any other U.S. based sites that sell either A)MDPC-X sleeving, or B) sleeving of equal (or greater) quality?

My main concern is that the MDPC-X sleeving is very tight, and hides the color well, and looks very high quality. The stuff Im seeing on frozencpu and elsewhere doesn't seem to be on the same level. Id like to get it done soon, and don't want to pay ~90 bucks to get it shipped from MDPC-X.

http://en.mdpc-x.com/

Eh?

Last I checked it was the same price, or very close to the murdermod US site (within 5-10) And they have way more colors if you want to piece together a kit of some sort...

Yea, if you actually add it to your cart, different prices pop up. It's actually 36 euro for the kit, and 10 for shipping which is $65 US dollars... which I believe was the same as the US site with shipping. Just make an account and login.

This is true it does show up cheaper after having an account, I saw that after I posted. But coming from Deutschland I expect it will take a good while for it to get there also. Like I said Id rather not wait too long if I can help it.

This blows Murdermod away. Look, you actually have choices!

http://cableorganizer.com/

How does it blow it away? I've compared other sleeving to Murdermod and while some of it is close, it's still not better...

Yea it's more expensive, but if you already spent a few grand on components, $60-80 in sleeving isn't much more if you want it to look good.

Because, it's the same stuff. So it will look just as good.

"same stuff"... er what No it's not...

4.4mm is inbetween 1/8" and 1/4"... 1/8" is too small for single wires, and 1/4 too big. The sata sleeve they have fits perfectly over SATA cables, 3/8" or anything else won't fit like this does.

It makes a difference... if you buy some techflex or whatever crap you can tell very quickly that you get what you pay for. I've sleeved with cheap sleeving and it's terrible... everytime I've used the murdermod stuff it looks good and isn't a pain to work with.

So it's preference, I think the extra money is worth it. Even though it really isn't that much more considering how much you get.

1/8 is too small for single wire? What???

There are sizes other than 1/4 inch, like 3/16. Did you even look?

Also, learn some math. 4.4mm is a hair over 1/16 of an inch...I'll clarify that more for you: it's between 0 and 1/8 of an inch, therefore 4.4mm < 1/8".

The only thing Murdermod claims to have over the competition is their so-called SATA sleaving. Obviously they buy the stuff in bulk, they don't manufacture it.

Argue all you want. Look around and you can get basically the same thing.

1/8 pulls it too tight and looks silly... and maybe you could point me to the 3/16, because all I'm seeing is 1/8 and 1/4 or bigger...

4.4 millimeters = 0.173228346 in
1/8" = 0.1250000 in
1/4" = 0.2500000 in

1/4" -------------- 4.4mm -------------- 1.8"
.2500000in > .173228346in > .1250000 in

You... learn... some... math...

"Basically" is still not the same thing... it won't be as tight of a weave, which is similar to their "clean-cut" or non-fray stuff, which only comes in 1/8 or 1/4... and again.. $30 for a spool, $10 for 10ft of 3-1 heatshrink (Probably not thin-walled either) and you're still not getting the sata sleeve, big sleeve, or heatshrink for those two.. and it won't be as good...

Have fun though... but it won't look like this or... anything on the murdermod sites...

Whoops, didn't realize sleeving was a heated topic.

In most cases the other higher end sleeving (cableorganzier.com stuff, techflex, etc.) actually isn't much difference in price. Once I add enough to make it equivalent to the MDPC-X kits it comes out to be just as expensive.

After spending a lot of time looking through all these different options, and having only pictures to go by, I can't help but think the MM stuff does look to be a bit above the rest. They just look a bit tighter, and they look like they use a bit of a different weave which I think look very nice.

Blacestorm: So you've worked with the MDPC stuff a few times then? how is it for scissor cutting? is it easy to start fraying the ends? And like I said before, all I have to go on is pictures, so I'm wondering is the color concealing ability really as good as it looks? Id like to not see any of the wire color behind the sleeving.

Thanks for the responses

Haha not really a heated topic, but I don't like people spreading misinformation... I'm sure their sleeving is fine but it's still not the same as murdermod, and if you like that look you should be buying the original... considering it's not even more expensive then the other stuff...

It really is as good as it looks... unless you stuff a lot of wire in there and it expands out.

If you look at the picture I posted above, I used the same sleeve for a 4pin P4 connection and you can almost make out the yellow in there. But normally people do a single wire per sleeve, not 4.

I cut it with scissors and then melt the end with a barbecue lighter, which is also what I use for the heatshrink, it has a bendable head + adjustable heat output, you just hold it under the heatshrink, sorta bringing the flame back and forth, you'll see the heatshrink go down to size very fast, if you leave it too long you can melt the sleeving which is bad, or burn the heatshrink which isn't as bad. But the murdermod stuff seems to resist burning compared to some other stuff, I think I've burned murdermod once being careless, and you could barely tell, but trying to be very careful with some cheap stuff I burned 4-5 times just because the lighter is going to put out a lot of heat very quickly. It melts holes straight through the sleeving and looks terrible. It will fray just like any other sleeving (if you don't melt it after you cut it). You do have to make a clean cut with the scissors though, if you cut it unevenly it will start to fray pretty bad (like any other sleeve), I just trim off the bad part and try again. You lose maybe an inch or so, but it's cheaper than buying the real tool for cutting sleeving.

I've been happy with it.. I bought the big pack a while ago and have sleeved a lot of stuff and still have probably 1/3 or more left.

Awesome. I think I may just suck it up, and if I cant get it from MM soon Ill just get it from germany.

So with one kit do you think it has enough small sleeve to do an entire PSU (with lots of cables) doing each single wire? I really like the look of that and if I have to order some extra (though MDPC-X is having there pre xmas "get 10 meters free" thing) Ill make sure I do that at time of order.

Yea well you can do the math if you want.

I only half-sleeved mine, but they give oyu the length of the cables online.
So for the 24pin, it's just 24 x the length of the wire... that's how much sleeving approximately you'd need for that...

I think 100ft should be enough for 8pin, 24pin, and 4 x PCI-E most likely... I've already done 2 PCIe, 24, and 8pin, but I only did half-length because the other half is behind the motherboard anyways

Murdermod is the best shit you can buy.. and it takes under a week for the sleeve to get to me from out of the country.

It's like you telling me Coke is better than Pepsi having never tried Pepsi.

Can't argue with a fanboy.

The thing is I have tried lots of different sleeves, I've actually got osme stuff now that is tighter than the murdermod. The problem is I ordered 1/8" and it's basically 1/4"... but it barely expands... it's too tight... you can fit 1/4" worth of wires vs. a little bit more.

And if you haven't seen murdermod in person you can't talk either :p

Care to share what brands of sleeving you are talking about?
How time consuming is the sleeving process, and does it endanger your power supply in any way?

I can void your warranty, but otherwise as long as you are just sleeving you shouldn't be doing anything to endanger your power supply. Realistically you dont even need to take the cover off.

I put in my order for the MDPC-X pre christmas 10 meters extra special and the 5 pack of black PWM connectors. Should be here Friday. Like I said, after looking around, reading, and having seen some in person, the MDPC-X sleeving just looks better, and realistially to get the same amount from another vendor is the same price (Nils has some incredible shipping prices) as MDPC-X. Plus the resources I got from Nils after the purchase are invaluable. I would have botched a ton of supply figuring some of the "tricks" out that he shows you.

Ill probably start a work log for this when I start, I'm pretty excited to get going!

I've used both Techflex PET's and MDPC-X and I'll tell you, MDPC-X's blow them out of the water.

I know it's kinda stupid like "Hey, I like my wires to look cooler", but theres a difference trust me.

Here's some Techflex sleeving I did a while back:

And heres the MDPC-X:
HPIM1155.jpg

Not really a good comparison, but I hope it'll give you an idea of how they look in comparison a little. Another thing to consider is price, in no way is MDPC-X cheap. After you add the starter kit, you're gonna want some extra colors etc, and by time you know it everything will cost around $120.

I know because my first purchase from them was $120 shipped.

...for sleeving. But, it's fun. :D

Yea, I already got the ":confused:you spent how much? on, woven plastic?...." from my girlfriend. They just don't understand.

I've used techflex, some generic stuff from performance-PC's and clean-cut from www.buyheatshrink.com ... I ordered 1/8"... and it says 1/8" on the spool, but it's definitely 1/4"... and not very expandable at all. I barely fit it over a 1/4" cable I had for my headphones.

But it looks pretty sweet, it's super thick. here But it's a pain to work with, and the wrong size. I do like the clean-cut part of it though, because I can cut it with scissors and not have to melt the tip.

You can see in that picture above, the wire on the intel stock cooler is murdermod, the rest of them are back to that buyheatshrink stuff... and tthe USB cable is actually SATA sleeve Murdermod. So you can see it's not as thick, but still hides the wire.

I used a lot of it in that, along with heatshrink I got from them. I didn't like the adhesive lined heatshrink that much, I prefer the 3:1 thin-walled that murdermod gives you, but it seems to be hard to find.

I find it an insult to us here in the USA that they carry only black in the us and if you want any other color it is ridiculous to ship it. before u flame me, i made an account and wanted to order 15meters small green and that was it, and the shipping was 52euro ($75 usd) i know good and well that we here in the us would purchase a lot more and greatly promote his company if it was available here, come on MDPC-X its not that hard to stock items in 2 places to help your customers. anyone know of any forums they monitor? i'll post there too

I think you did something, wrong... it was always cheaper for me to order straight from him than to order from the US site..

here is a copy paste
Name SKU Price Quantity Subtotal
Pin-Remover by MOLEX - The Original
PR-MOLEX 20,34 Euro 20,34 Euro
Sleeve SMALL - GREEN
SL-S-GE 6,68 Euro 133,60 Euro
Subtotal: 153,94 Euro
Shipping and Handling Fee: 52,00 Euro

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Total: 205,94 Euro
(EU only) 19% VAT included: 0,00 Euro

Well wait... 133.60 euros would be 20 packs, of 10 meters... so 200 meters, or 650 feet of sleeving...

I could understand weight/size of box wise that it might require something a lot bigger. But I would contact him, it's just one guy doing it from what I know and he was quick to respond to my emails and might be able to work out a deal if you're buying a lot/more accurate shipping quote... etc.

for the normal "pack" it was always fairly reasonable... $15-20 american... which isn't bad for international and the prices are cheap compared to the american site.

It also looks like it switches to DHL for that much weight... I tried 15 packs of 10 meter and got $29.50 for shipping.

15 packs... as in 150 meters.

What he had up there was 20 packs of 10meters each, which is 200 meters which is a shitload of sleeving and I can understand why it would cost a lot to ship.

He doesn't run the US site. MurderMods is a whole different ball game. Nils used to help out with the site if I remember correctly but no longer does, and only runs his German site now.

In every way his prices and shipping are extremely fair, and hes extremely understanding of most situations and is willing to help out.

How long did it take you guys to get your sleeving?

I live in California and got shipment confirmation last Wed (2/10). I’m jonesing to get started haha.

yea, after nils replied he showed me that i was looking at it wrong, i didn't see that a quantity of 1 = 10 meters, so in actuallity i had a ridiculously large order (over 200 meters) once we got that lined out, he set me up, and yes, nils is one helluva guy, it's modders like him that help us grow.
