Hey,
I know this hardware is older than dirt but it should work to get me some cheap storage.

I've got this so far:

pe2950 w32g ram
it has an internal PERC6i
I added PERC5e to connect the MD1000
the MD1000 has 2 controllers
There is a SAS cable connecting to either external port on the PERC5e
The MD1000 has 3x450Gb SAS 10k drives right now for testing

When I load up the config for the Dell SAS5 it shows me 3 drives on each controller
When the controller starts up and shows the drives that are on live it shows 6 drives total. When loading into the Acronis Storage installer it shows there are 6 drives.
If I disconnect one of the cables then the controller shows three drives and the Acronis Storage installer shows three drives.

Why is it doubling the drives? I've tried googling this but no info.

I have a 2nd setup exactly the same. Exact same problem.

Any help here would be much appreciated. Please let me know if there is more information I could provide.

Thanks!

You should only use 1 cable going from the raid controller to the primary EMM.
You should only run 2 cables from the same controller / system if you have the front selector switch set to the split mode & then half the backplane will be on one cable and half on the other.

James21, Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure why but once the install was done in the OS it only showed the three drives.
So really, in there end there doesn't seem to be a problem. Just not sure why it was showing double the drives during install.
