MCW55 vs MCW60

which is better? I know the 55 is cheaper and older, but if you were to get one of them, which would you get? And think of both being lapped extremely well.

Also from a continuation of a post that I cant find (lol)

I can get the following (for my second card block) for the following prices:

MCW55 - $35 from Silicon Valley Compucycle
MCW60 - $64 from Jab-tech.com
AquaXtreme MP-1 - $63 from Petras Tech Shop
Silverprop Fusion HL - $52 from Petras Tech Shop


Which would be the best to get for performance on a 7900GT? The MCW55 is the cheapest but how much more do you gain from getting that compared to any other block?
 
Probably very little if any difference. If the price gap is that big, go for the MCW55.

IMO, the MCW60's look cheaper than its predecessors. IIRC, all the MCWs have been using the diamond pin matrix design. So it would be suprising to see a drastic performance change from one block to another.
 
The big advantage I see with the 60 over the 55 is that the 60 has proper hose barbs, not some mickey-mouse fittings that come on the 55.
 
Well you could always turn them into barbs if you really had to. And I'm not sure what's bad about OD? Unless one plans to run exceptionally thick walled tubing, it shouldn't cause any problems.
 
Also I'm pretty sure that the price you quoted for the MCW60 was with the RAM sinks included right? Currently the 60 is 45 plus 20 for the ram sinks at svc which is what I bought a couple weeks ago. The 55 is only 30 though. I paid the extra dough for the newer design that matched my apogee better and the regular barbs over the quick connect thingys.
 
What is this quick connect thingys BTW?

And yeah I want the MC14's due to my vmodding the RAM as well so they're gonna get hot.
 
MCW60 all the way, the mounting method alone is reason enough. The MC14 are also excellent, lighter in weight, higher performing than the OCZ BGA sinks I was using and also easier to cut/trim. Should I also mention 100% copper/acetal construction and no aluminium.
 
I should also mention the MCW55 is made of copper with a delrin housing.

But if the price difference is only $15, then you might go with the MCW60 for the higher pin density. IIRC, the MCW60 has the same exact baseplate as the Apogee.
 
You do recall correctly. Except I believe the MCW60 uses more pins (even though useless since the core is really small and only requires pins over the core)

See im leaning toward the MCW60 since its a good performing block and comes with sinks, but the MCW55 is made in the USA (not the MCW60) but the silverprop I heard is a really good block (from some), the MAZE4 is decently performing too except when you turn down the pump speed (even though I leave mine running @ 5 the whole time) and the MP-1 is restrictive, but good performing (Im thinking abotu taking that one off due to its restrictiveness. I cant have anymore restriction in my loop than I already have.
 
Remember that you'll have to trim the 2 sinks that go under the barbs if you're using 1/2" tubing....... :D

what size threads does the MCW60 use? Does it use 1/2" or something smaller like 1/4" or 3/8"?

Umm not sure on thread size, I know that it comes with both 1/2 and 3/8 barbs though. Does that help?
 
the MCW55 sits up a little higher off the PCB i believe. My Swiftech ramsinks fit perfectly under my MCW55 w/ 7/16" tubing on an X1900XTX. No cutting needed here :)
