Anyone know how to turn your HTPC on or off through the remote? I have a button that puts it to sleep but I didn't know if it was ok to leave it in sleep until I use it again or get up off my couch and shut it off/:D

Is it ok to leave it in sleep mode for a couple of days at a time?
running vista mce X2 4400 8600gt

leave it on,if you are going to use the DVR functionality of it then if you turn it off it will not record the programs scheduled, most people when building a HTPC keep this in mind and usually go for cooler and quieter parts, and for a HTPC you don't really need an overclocked processor or really high end (high temp) video card

First off i dont think he is OC'ing his MCE box since the video card and OC'd proc in his sig dont match the hardware he describes in the htpc.

You can put your mce box into standby mode if you are using S3. your computer will use less than 10watts of power and only leaves the RAM powered on to bring the system back up fast. The proc, HDD fans and everything else should be off. When MCE records, it will wake up your machine. If you use it has a media server as well for other pcs, you can wake the computer remotly using the NIC's Wake on Lan Feature. I tend to use the magic packet to wake it up specificly so every request to that computer doesnt wake it up all the time.

Depends, my MCE box is also my Main PC, since it is connected to a 37" Westinghouse. PC is highly overclocked, but I always run 24-7 anyways. Thank goodness for Liquid cooling :)

I know I'm not the norm, but since my TV is also my monitor and I rent a room this only makes sense. I would imagine this would also be Dorm Practical since so many [H] members are in college.
