MCE keyboard work with off brand recievers?

Hey, I googled this and every one says "the box says that it requires the receiver that comes with the MCE remote and would only work with it", but no one actually said they tried it with any other reciever.

I have an non-Microsoft MCE remote and was wondering if i can use the keyboard with it.

not sure the keyboard is worth it if i have to buy the remote too, it starts to get a bit pricy.

each device has it's own specific code sequence. if you really wanted to you could use a learning IR receiver that would accept the keyboards codes. but those are $50. You can get an MCE remote for like $20.

i was just wondering if it would work with my offbrand remote reciever i already own.

i know i could just buy the 30 dollar remote to use the reciever, but spending 60 on the keybaord and another 30 for a receiver starts to get a little more than im willing to pay.
especially since i already have a remote im content with. I can get a nice wireless for cheaper, but was willing to spend the extra couple bucks to have the MCE one.

just wondering if anyone has tried it before. Using the MCE keyboard with an offbrand MCE remote reciever.
