Okay, I've posted in a few other threads but no one seems to want to answer my questions or has no answers. So, don't flame me for starting this up in a seperate thread. I can't seem to find the answers to my questions anywhere else so, here it goes.

I'm considering switching over to XP MCE 2005 so I can have a good Multimedia/Gaming machine. Before I do this I need a few things clarified.

1. I have an MSI K8N Diamond Plus SLI x16 Motherboard, will the current 6.85 nforce 4 drivers be okay to use with MCE 2005?

2. I have a 7900GTX Video Card, due to the mixture of responses in other threads I cannot determine which video driver will be the best. I see a lot of people having TV Tuner problems. I don't have a TV Tuner card I really don't foresee too many problems but I'm open to any suggestions you might have out there. I just want something that will work with the OS and be good for gaming.

3. Supposedly this is a dedicated "Media" OS. How well is this OS for gaming? Since it is based off of XP Pro I wouldn't see it being too bad but if anyone has any opinions on it, I'd be happy to read them.

1) Those drivers will work just fine.

2) I'm using 84.25 drivers on my MCE box and they work great

3) MCE is no better or worse for gaming than the Home or Pro versions of XP. It's what i use, and it works just fine.
 
Thanks, it's nice to see that someone out there cares enough to reply, the nVidia Forums seem to be useless.

The only thing I'm really concerned about is the video drivers. Where did you download the 84.25 drivers? Guru3D? I haven't heard of these drivers, Have you tried any other drivers? 84.43?
 
MCE is literaly Windows XP Pro, so you should just treat it as such in respects to drivers. (The exception is with Tuner drivers, since...why do you buy an MCE OS and use the XP only non-MCE integrated tuner drivers??) There is a specific nVidia-addon extention that allows you to fine tune visual settings in MCE using the remote, but it's not requried at all. The same effect can be done by hand with the normal Nvidia control panel.

Usualy when MCE drivers are offered, they only provide some extra functionality to the MCE application itself.

Yeah, got the 84.25 drivers from Guru3D. I haven't gotten around to trying 84.43 since my computer is busted right now. :eek:
 
I just looked on the nVidia ftp site and they have the 84.25 drivers on there. I just thought I would mention that in case someone didn't want to download them from Guru3D.
