This weekend I purchased a computer that I've wanted for very long time. (Btw, first new computer that I have every purchased for myself). I only wish the OS was XP Pro instead of MCE 2005. After reading some older posts, it seems that MCE 2005 is in part build on XP Pro. If that is correct, then I am a bit happy.

I've not been able to find a web site that would help me tweak MCE into a simpler OS without all the add-ons related to the Media Center features. Is there a site with that guidance?

In advance thanks.

So you have no desire for the Media Center functionallity? It's actually quite good, you make want to take a closer look at it.

XP MCE 2005 is identical in capability to XP PRO with one exception, a clean install of MCE 2005 cannot log onto a Windows domain. The original version of Media Center could do that, but Microsoft disabled that ability with the though that Windows domains are pretty much used in business environments and media centers aren't. Kinda dumb if you have a laptop that you use for media and work. Vista Ultimate dosen't have that restriction anymore.

If you want, you can disable all of the media center services in the Serivces Control Manager.

Thanks you for your quick post. Maybe I should take a look at the MCE functions ... a good suggestion. Take care

you should also consider going to MS downloads, and upgrading to media player 11, it seems a lot better than earlier versions.:D
