I go into the control panel and try to uninstall McAfee virus scan and it won't let me. I keep getting pop ups from mcafee saying to restart my computer and it won't work. It says to reinstall McAfee if the error messages still appear but I already did that.

McAfee won't uninstall!!

1. Boot into safe mode.
2. Delete the McAfee directories
3. Reboot into normal Windows, delete the shortcuts and the reg enteries (use a reg cleaner, or you can just leave them).
4. Try uninstalling it from the Add Remove Programs thingy. It will say "has already been removed" and will remove the entry.
I had to do this too.

Or you can use this tool specify made by MacAfee to remove it. Takes a few minutes to run but it successfully removed a botched 2007 install.
I did this today.
Boot into safe mode (which was a project unto itself on this machine), rename the McAfee folders (again, project), go to services and disable all McAfee services (I used MSconfig).
Reboot, McAfu** is gone. McAfee had screwed up IE in this machine, so I had to uninstall in safe mode to even open add remove programs in regular Windows.
I've had McAfee screw three machines in two weeks, my customers left happy with AVG.
