What pump setting will I need my Vario at? My loop order is XSPC Dual 5.25" bay Reservoir/Pump top combo->360 rad->240 rad->Swiftech Apogee XT->2x Waterblock for 6970.

I just keep mine at max, since I can't hear it anyways.

I keep mine at 2.5. Anything over 3 is too loud and doesn't seem to effect performance. I set it to 4 when i first got it and it was silly loud.

I have the same res as you and you need to drain the entire loop to change the pump speed because they couldn't drill 1 simple hole.

I found I can stick a small flat head and turn the dial. I guess I'll keep it at max then since Ultra Kazes are loud enough to not hear anything else.

Ditto that. Mine is sitting on Petra's Gel Stuff. I could just barely hear it at setting 5 even while leak testing when nothing else but the PSU fan was running.

Vibration is indeed a large factor of noise when it comes to pump. Simply putting rubber beneath them cuts down on their noise dramatically, but I suppose that's not really possible with a bay/pump reservoir.

Ah, yes, forgot about that. That's another reason I'll never use a bay res/pump.

the 655 pumps should almost be completely silent (not heard over abient backgound noise). as Tsumi mentioned the transfer of vibration from the pump housing to the case should be the culprit where noise is concerned. i don't have the 'Vario' version, just the standard 655.

i know with my 655, some of the vibration is being transferred into the case, mainly because i haven't properly isolated it. this is evident when i put my hand around the pump. the noise/vibrations almost drops to nothing. the 655 i'm using still has the rubber (neoprene?) mat attached to the underside and 2 bolts threaded thru the base ->mat ->case ->rubber washer ->philips head screw.
in my example i think i didn't drill the holes in the case wide enough thus the scews are touching metal somewhere.

i purchased one of these - 'Phobya Noise Destructor V.1 for Pump Decoupling'
http://www.performance-pcs.com/cata...oduct_info&cPath=59_439_775&products_id=30669
tho i haven't installed it yet so i can't comment on its effectiveness however is looks to be a lot more substantial than the standard piece of rubber that comes with the pump. i think the key is to have a good thick piece of isolation material underneath the pump and between the case and screw tops. this combined with large bore holes in the case to ensure screws don't touch any metal.

No pump is completely silent, only for old people who are partially deaf ;)

I have a 655 and I can hear it over ambient noise on any setting even with it completely isolated from the case. What I find is that the sound has different tonal qualities at different settings. In my P180 the noise is least perceivable at around 3.5-4 because of the tone quality and the case construction.

I would wager that it is different for everyone though, because your hearing will be more or less sensitive and your case will be different. The best thing to do is to try it at different settings for a few days and see what is the best noise to performance trade off.

i will admit i may have damaged my hearing from my drug/alcohol fuelled clubbing days. i certainly don't hit a live event without ear plugs now as i don't miss the 'ringing' in the ears the day after.

think Erasmus354 might be on to something regarding the case. the 655 in my case (TT mozart) is situated in the far side chamber so there are 2 panels separating it from my ears (pump/MB panel/side door). the case is sitting on top of a 2 draw filing cabinet a little over a meter away (over 3 foot for those of you still using old imperial measurements... ;) )

as i mentioned in my earlier post, when i muffle the 655, all i can hear are the 120mm fans (all throttled btw 800 & 1200 rpm).

Max... it will last well over 5years with a 100% duty cycle. I love swiftech pumps even though they are made by some one else.
