My brand spanking new gaming pc is giving me a disk read error has occured when i try to start the pc. Okay this is what happened I cut the pc on logged into windows everything looked fine, so I go take a shower and when I get out of the shower the default windows screensaver is on the screen (i had a different screensaver). So I move the mouse to stop the screen saver and the xp logo just sits there like it is frozen so I hit the reset button on the machine and then I get the error message and it tells me to hit ctrl alt del to reboot, but guess what it tells me the same thing over and over again. I tried to get into the bios and that screen just sits there like it is loading but nothing happens.

Safe mode dosent work so now im trying the xp recovery console and that screen is just sitting there after you press 1 but the hdd light is on like it is busy. F#^k it Im just about to do a reinstall.................

2 hours later....re format for xp fresh install is staying stuck @ 1%, I am fed up and have orded a rush delivery of a new HDD from newegg.com
Any advice for the drive with the error is greatly appreciated.
 
where did you get the PC from? If you bought it in parts, go to the HDD manufacturer's website and download their disk "analysis" software to see what is wrong with the HDD. If it spits out an error code, it's time to RMA.

If you do not have a floppy drive (like me) you may be able to get a bootable ISO from the manufacturer by e-mailing them. Maxtor sent me a link to their utility in bootable ISO format.

edit:

you did test (i.e. reseat) all the connections, i.e. data and power cables, didn't you?
 
Monarch built the pc, it has a floppy on it but i may have to just get some kind of bootable iso. I think i might go with the ultimate boot disk or what ever its called. This really sucks, my other pc is older and i have no problems with it at all and it gets used wayyyyyyy more then my gaming rig.
