I can't find a ton of information on this topic, so I'll ask the wonderful [H] crowd.

I'm going to buy a MBP 15", but I'm trying to decide on the resolution and screen option.

Standard res is 1440 x 900, but the upgraded screen is 1650 x 1080, with a non glare option.

I personally think I would prefer the 1650 x 1080 and matte screen, but I wanted your opinions. I'm worried I'll squint a bit much with the high-res option, but I would truly appreciate the extra real estate when the computer is undocked. Not a big fan of glossy either, but maybe Apple has a quality one? I've just never seen a glossy screen and thought to myself "good representation of colors."

I have the 15" MBP hi res with anti-glare screen. I love it and wouldn't have purchased it if it only came with 1440 x 900. Do you have any Apple stores near you? They don't always have the anti-glare on display, but at least you could get a feel for the higher resolution. I don't find myself squinting at all.

Glossy vs. anti-glare truly boils down to personal preference. I do a lot of programming, some photo retouching and web browsing on mine. Everything looks great. It sounds like you're already leaning towards the anti-glare so I would say go with your gut!
 
I'm in a similar position, though I have the glossy version as I prefer that. But I wouldn't go with the non-HighRes version.

Standard version = too few pixels over too big an area.

Honestly Matte vs. Glossy is all about personal preference. The color accuracy is supposedly better on the Matte screen, while the Glossy screen has more "pop", but unless you are seriously into Photoshop, I don't think there's a huge difference. I have a 23 Matte ACD next to/and plugged into my 15 MBP, and I prefer the look of the MBP to the ACD.

But it's personal preference really
 
Hi-Res is the only way to go. 1680x1050 is the perfect resolution for 15.4". I strongly prefer the glossy screen, but that's definitetly one of those eye of the beholder things.
 
I just had to switch from my Mid 2010 MBP with the Hi-Res screen to a Mid 2008 Model with the regular screen and everything just seems blurry. My 2010 can't come back from repair soon enough is all I know.
 
The 1440x900 display is far and away my biggest complaint about my MBP. When I bought it in '07, it was the only choice for the 15" model. Go for the 1650x1080 display, either version - you'll thank yourself for it.
 
Get the hi-res and for the love of god get the matte screen, it's so far and away superior to the shitty glossy one that it's not even funny.

I thought the same too. I thought I would fucking hate it as much, if not more, than the MBP's glossy screen. A friend has one and it doesn't bother me much. It's not ideal, but it isn't as bad as using a MBP in an Apple store.
 
Get the high resolution option. Matte vs. Glossy is all about personal preference. While I detest the glossy screen you may think it's super awesome. The Apple store's environment may be a worst case example of how bad the screen glare can be.
 
Definitely go with the high resolution screen. 1680x1050 really isn't a high resolution for a 15" laptop. It really should be standard.
 
I love my 15.4" @ 1080P, so I couldn't imagine using anything less than 1680x1050.

I just placed an order for a high res anti glare! It was more money, but I'm glad I did it for sure. :)

Pixel density FTW! On 15" anything smaller then 1650x1050 just looks wrong.

Once you get it in your hands you will totally understand, and I can tell you from personal expirence that 1920x1200 on a 15' is still fine.
