i dont feel like busting out the manual for my p5n-e but i'm sure this is a quick question. i built another rig out of spare parts and i was wondering if the fan headers on a motherboard can run an 80mm fan. i dont feel like dealing with the wiring of a fan controller and want to avoid having it going 100% all the time. thanks
 
umm...yeah! as long as the fan has a 3pin header you should be fine. besides what else would you run off of motherboard fan headers besides a fan?

btw, i am running a few 120mm off of a few of my mobos no problem. the only thing i would avoid is something like a high powered delta or tornado fan connected to the mobo.
 
i had this idea that they were for lower powered fans like a nb/sb heatsink. thanks though.

Funky lights? If you have a spare case header and the MB is set to increase voltage as it heats up you can watch the light change too.

Most MB headers can supply up to around 0.5 amps. Something like S-FLEX takes 0.3 tops, a tornado/delta can draw multiple amps. Most digital based fan controllers simply can't deal with such load.
