Maze4 Retrofit

Hi all, first post :)

Anyone know of anyone that has retrofited a maze4 socket A block to fit on a socket 939 motherboard?

If not a site with a good dimensioned drawing of the 939 socket would be a great help.

i did it. i didn't really measure too much, though.

just got a rectangle of plastic that was about the right size, then used a piece of paper the same size to make a little drilling template.

plop the paper down on the board, and start marking off locations, then plop the paper onto the top of the block and mark off the rest. stick the paper to the plastic and start drilling.

the block itself is pretty indifferent about being spot-on centered over the core, so as long as all of your holes like up, and the CPU is completely covered, it'll work about as well as it ever will.

i believe that AMD has a dimensioned drawing in their a64 and/or s939 white paper. i have to head off to class shortly, so maybe i'll put it up this evening, if you can't find it yourself.

i used 5mm thick "lexan" polycarbonate plastic.

i have been able to use the original mounting hardware, more or less, although i had to tighten down the springs pretty much as far as they would go. my board has a metal backer plate that i was able to screw the threaded rod into, after removing the plastic heatsink bracket on the front.

my CPU is running with a maze 4-1 coppertop with a custom 1 cm thick coldplate (replaces the stock 1/4" plate) and 226 watt, 12 volt, 50mmx50mm pelt. i have two BIX 2 rads to take care of heat and a big danner pond pump for circulation. GPU is in the same loop, and prior to moving to my present card was also pelt cooled.
 
A replacement top for A64 is pretty cheap: about $11 including fittings. Add $2 if you would like them to screw the fittings in for you with some silicon sealer. Id suggest getting a replacement o-ring for $2 while you are at it. Just remember to alternate opposite screws every 1/4 turn to prevent cracking from uneven pressure.

i don't know about emerge411's situation, however in my own case retrofitting the block myself, rather than buying from DD was kind of necessary.

i would have had to wait several weeks to get the top from DD, across the border and into my hands. it would also have ended up costing my around $20 in shipping and handling. the O-ring is easy to pick up from a fitting supply shop in town.

having the copper top made the whole process quite a bit easier, as did switching the bolts over to some slightly longer machine screws that would pass all the way through the plastic top, rather than having cutouts for all of the blots that actually seal the block.

pay the 25 for a new top for my Maze4 (barbs attached and shipped)
or
drop an extra $10 and get a PolarFlo E block

They are local to me so at worst I pay tax bringing it up to $37.88 time is not really an issue so if there would be no performance to be gained I will most likely get a new top for the Maze
