Sup guys. These new ATi cards have really peaked my interest as I've been really meaning to upgrade. My question is, Will a HD3850 be a noticable upgrade from a X850XT? Or will I need to spring for the HD3870 or 8800GT is order to see a real improvement?

I am right out going to say your post frustrates me. You didn't read any reviews? Compare your performance with the reviews?

Yes, a 3850 is a lot faster than an X850XT. My x800gto^2 is crazily overclocked, and I still say the 3850 is a lot faster.

Looking at this chart alone. I believe when I tried the Timeshift Demo, I had about 10fps MAX, with lower settings. Lowest settings still didn't provide playable frame rate.

Then you should take a break from posting. Its only a question. I was working all day and was on the clock, I didn't have time to go through pages of reviews and I wanted a quick answer. Is that so wrong?

It's not wrong, but it can be annoying as it probably could've taken you the same amount of time or less to look it up rather than wait for posts. And common sense should've helped out out... Newest generation high end vs 2 generation old highend... DX10.1 Shader model 4.1 vs DX9 Shader Model 2

;)

If you have time to play games then you have time to research.

Also, the 3850 will be faster.

Why would you be frustrated, none of the reviews look back more then one generation if that. lots of the reviews I see only compare the 8800gt to the 8800gts and the 8600gt. They dont look back to the 6800gt or even the 7600gt. I find it frustrating looking for ancient reivews comparing my 7600gt to the 8600gt, then going to the 8600gt reviews being compared to the ati radeon 3850. He has to go back even further looking at reviews of the first x1800 and first 7800gtx reviews.

If anyone should be frustrated it should be us for these short sighted reviews.

if we use the hardocp's review of 3800s for example. i will use the results for 8600GTS and then try to search another review on google with 8600gts compared to something else, say, 7600GT, and then go from there. That's the way I've always done it. It takes 10 minutes unless you're asking me to compare 3800s to a ti4200. Faster than to wait for a reply.

And yes, the 3850 will cream, destroy, obliterate te x850xt. x850xt = Geforce 6800Ultra. 7600GT is about the same as Geforece 6800 Ultra. 8600GTS beats 7600GT by 10-20%, *8600GTS gets wasted by the 3850. Therefore, x850xt will be beaten by 3850. Whew!! hahaha

I like how cheap these new ati cards are.. If the 8800gt doesn't change its price when I have the money to buy one I'll definitely buy one. I just can't beleieve how cheap they are again! I thought they would be like over priced at like around 300-400 dollars.

I'm frustrated because he can just say, "Oh hey, I own this card, lets look at the performance these new cards have in this review and compare it to the experience with my card".

Which would have been less work than making a thread.

E.g. Use the same settings as the review for the card I intend to buy, oh wow, my FPS just made Asian Ladyboy hookers look like a good buy.

Also take into account an x850 can't run DX10... so if the 3870 runs DX9, it's going to blow the x850 to pieces in a game like Crysis.

lol

drama

Get over it guys, It was a question. If you feel the need to nerd-rage, do it some place else.

Like I said, I posted it while working and on-the-clock. I didn't have time to check from review-to-review-to-review, so I posted it on here. Calm yourself. I didn't sit and wait for a reply, I posted again after I got off and could sit back and look through reviews. I didn't know you guys were so touchy. ;)

To answer your original question, grab one. Just make sure it's a 512MB variant, otherwise you'll regret getting the 256MB in texture heavy situations. Might want to give this review a gander.

Too bad ATi bottlenecked the design with two few texture address units and ROPs like they did with R600, otherwise this would have truly been the card to get. :(

Well i'm upgrading to the HD 3870 from my x800GTO2. I couldn't find a 8800GT for the right price so I am staying with ATI.

Goodthing I didn't buy the 8800GTS a month ago :D saved me 150bux
