I'm buying two of the new Maxtor 250 GB SATA drives with the 16MB buffer. However, there is the Maxline III version and then there is the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus10 version (DM10).
According to Storagereview: <http://www.storagereview.com/articles/200410/200410087B300S0-2_1.html>
"The higher capacity DM10 units (250 GB and 300 GB) feature construction similar to the MaXLine III right down to the 16 MB buffer. As a result, these high-end DM10 drives are functionally identical to the MaXLine III. Maxtor claims that the MaXLine uses select premium components and premium testing and manufacturing. In the end, however, the performance figures that follow also apply to the 300 GB DiamondMax 10."
They also have a different warranty period with the DM10 at 1 year and the Maxline III at 3 years. The Maxline III cost about $50.00 more than the DM10.
Is this price difference worth it for the Maxline III? Which should I get? This is for home use.
Thanks
Louis
