Maxtor error code?

Does anyone know what code dea69471 is? My 200gb Maxtor has decided to gie up on me. What a month, first IBM deathstar 60gb died 3 weeks ago and now this one. I cannot even copy stuff off of it. I got the above error code when I ran Powermax software.

sounds like a dOa to me. if you can't get stuff off this one, hopefully you hadn't accumulated too much stuff in 3 weeks... you sound like a prime candidate for raid 1.
 
I had a 120gig Maxtor hard drive die on me last week. I was trying to pull files off of it but my system wouldn't even recognize the drive. What I did was just let the drive sit overnight and then I popped it back in my machine as a slave drive and voila, my machine recognized it. Started pulling important files off of it and now I'm going to ship it back to Maxtor for an RMA. You can fill out some stuff on their website and get an instant RMA number. You can even include that error code you got.
 
Unfortunately my drive is out of warranty by exactly 1 month. I will try to do that and see what happens. Thanks.

PS: This year it is 3rd drive to die. WD died in office. It took 2 companies 3 weeks to recover some data. They recommended to use seagate.
 
Any RMA to Maxtor will require the error code, unlike some drive companies.
My luck with Maxtor drives hasn't been very good as of late. I've bought a couple of them in the last 6 months and had to RMA them both. With Seagate extending to 5 year warranties again, I'll probably be going that route on the next purchase. This one year stuff on standard drives isn't cutting it.
 
Tell me about it. IBM drive that died on me few weeks ago had 3 year warranty and I was 1.5 month past that so no RMA's. It feels like they are timing failures pretty well ;-)
