About a month ago, I decided to jump on the 120GB maxtor deal for 40$ shipped. I already had a 160GB maxtor in my box that had been running problem free for 2+ years, but was running low on space. So when my 120 comes, I install it, and as soon as I power on, I hear the dreadful clicking sound. I quickly turn off the computer, and unplug the new clicking drive. Rebooting yeilds the fact that it took my ever so wonderful 160 along with it. So now I have no harddrive. I go back to Staples (where I purchased my 120) and told them about the clicking, and they gave me a new 120. Go home and Install it. Installs fine, load programs, leave it on overight. Wake in the middle of the night to *click click click click* once more. Turn it off, wake up about 4 hours later, turn it back on, still *click click click*. Go back to staples later that day after work, tell them my situation, and they suggest I have a professional install it. What a kick to my ego (i've been building/upgrading computers for about 5 years). So, I'm on my 3rd maxtor 120GB, and today (about 28 days after purchase) it starts to click again. But only under heavy load. I can surf the web, write a paper, etc, perfectly fine. But as soon as I load up a Video intensive game, or start doing some heavy photoshopping, once more the harddrive gives me a single or double click, and reboots. Now the clicking goes away after rebooting, but it still causes my system to crash. I'm planning on RMA'ing it. Any suggestions or comments on if this has happened to you in one of the recent maxtor deals going on?
