Similar to last week's Seagate drive @ $199, this one is a Maxtor 500GB SATA 300 w/ 16MB buffer and 9ms seek time for only $189 NO rebates

Damnit why doesn't Fry's put this on outpost.com too? Fry's hates east-coasters.

I'd rather pay the $10 more for the extra 4 years of warranty on the Seagate.

Yeah, me too, but the Seagate (that is on sale this week) is a PATA Drive. :(
I just can't bring myself to buy a drive that big with only a 1 year warranty.

No more Maxtors for me. Lost two of the 160gig PATAs after 1 year 2 months of service. Just out of the warranty period. Yay for quality.

Great deal though cost/storage wise.

Maxtors have sucked for the last 6 years.
Their manufacturing and testing processes went to the dumps .
A clean room at Maxtor LOLOL... Yea Right!
This is the exact reason why Seagate is dumping and removing all PATA and SATA lines and replacing them with their own HDD lines (Financial & Econimic reasoning also). Seagate is only keeping the stable series SCSI and 500GB maxtor lines.Old News People!!
If your going to buy a drive make sure it goes through a 24 hour enterprise testing procedure.
WD enterprise 400gb and 500GB SATA drives destroy Maxtor drives stability any day!
