Maximum Performance vs. Adaptive ?

System in sig below. In the NVCP Settings, should I set it to Prefer Maximum Performance or keep at Adaptive ? I am running a GTX-680 4GB. I play a lot of BF3 and PS2.

Thank you

Depends on what you want. Prefer Maximum Performance will run the GPU at max clocks always. Adaptive will up-clock and down-clock according to GPU load.

The actual clock rate will determine temperature, fan speed and noise.

Thanks JW. I guess Adaptive is best on the card ? Not burning it down too quick ?

But in intensive games like BF3, is there a noticeable difference between both settings, or does the card in Adaptive mode, know to run faster when it needs too ?

I prefer Adaptive so that when I'm ditzing around on the desktop I'm not generating 50C+ temps. (I have a mini-ITX system so I'm pretty eager to keep things cool.) Plus my Fermi card down-clocks so low that it's amazing how little power draw the system uses at idle.

Of course when you're gaming or even doing heavy desktop work the card will clock itself up to maximum frequencies. My 570 has three sets of frequencies and my 210 has two. Certainly something like BF3 would be enough to cause an up-clock, but I can't be sure exactly how Kepler works.

For me the only reason to force max performance is if my desktop feels a little sluggish with animations, since the cards take a little time to transition clocks... but that doesn't bother me.
