thems sound like fighting words on their thread. my ladder is not very shaky with the new quad i've added. imagine how many points we could get for all people that are regulars on here getting even 1 quad

I think all the older sites/pages that had a break down of the best folding rigs for different price ranges needs updating. It's been a year since i built a new folding box to add to my garden and a quad is out of my price range.

The guys at Maximum PC will put up a good clean fight, lets use this to rally the troops and break some new records

Wouldn't be a bad idea to update a breakdown like that, it'd let me safely retire the XP 2000 and 2100 with a single rig, while adding the higher end folder as I can

Also everyone needs to start using the DC for sale subforum more. Any old equipment you have might be an upgrade to some folder somewhere else, give them a crazy good deal and get every bit of hardware folding. There used to be some really good stuff on there about a year ago and i scored some sweet combo deals. Lets set some PPD goals for ourselves over the next few months as well and do what we can to hit them.

Well, Ive had some mixed experience with the DC FS forum. It is very slow and seems that the components I'm interested in are either unavailable or priced no better than other forums or auction sites. Actually, I still consider eBay as one of the best sources but one has to be very patient. The regular [H] FS forum is also excellent. I recently scored an ATI GPU card to fold on for a fair price.

There are a few members there making some projections, but thus far I see no indications that their goal of seizing the number one spot will transpire this year. First, they must exceed our production and by a vast amount before that becomes a reality. Second, we have more than twice their total production in points to date. How long will they need before they approach our accomplished production even with a major increase in their output?

What I have noticed is their team is composed of a significant number of high level producers (>20K PPD), while we only have a small handful, relatively speaking. They have two very big producers in FLECOM's league and one of them exceeds his current output. I'm not saying we need another huge producer but if it ever came to a heated competition, I believe we can rise to the occasion as in the past. Our strength seems to lie with solid numbers, as it always has.

1) Very true, we can't let them take away our glory at attaining the 1 mil PPD, we'll have to outdo them on this level.

2) I am working on getting another rig already, also I will need to revisit the lab manager to talk about additional borging.

3) Let's show MPC what we here at the [H]orde are capable of

They're pretty close to us when it comes to PPD, and it seems like they have a lot more smp clients than we do - just over half as many WU per day, but with PPD really close to ours.
I'll do my part.. Adding a Xeon 3210 and a Phenom 9500 as soon as I OC them. Bringing an Opteron 2.0 back up soon too - its down now because it was running a raid10 array with 4 250s, two from RMAs, two from newegg, and both drives from newegg went out within 3 days of installation. Trying to avoid running it as a raid0, so its off.

I agree. Theyre currently ~80,00 ppd behind us.Even with their 10 new quads coming online next week thats only 40k/day. It would take at least another 40 NEW quads to outproduce us by 100,000 ppd. Take that into the 255 million point lead we have, and it would still take them 7 years to pass us, assuming we stay flat and don't increase our daily production ANY in the next 7 years!

True, I'm not certain why there's some speculation they can catch us with 10 quads. Many people have quads now or will get them this year. They're not uncommon anymore. Maybe they were referring to something else, like another big producer. They already have a couple of them, more than we do.

In any case, I wish them all the best. They seem like a very nice group of folders, and I actually hope they can devise a good campaign this year. It would be fun to have some strong competition. They are a real threat to the teams in second and third place, though. In less than a year and half, they will be in second place providing everything stays more or less the way it is presently.

Agreed, it's all in the perspective. Besides, we're so far ahead, there really isn't a better way to look at competition currently.

Hopefully they can bring on some serious competition even if it's only in the PPD production. Looking very forward to it.
