max voltage for the 2.4c?

Could someone tell me what the max voltage that a P4 2.4C can be given is?

As much as your wallet can handle. Some people say 1.7, some are scared of 1.65.

I've still got a 1.6a @180fsb on a Rdram TH7II running @ 1.87volts for a year and a half now watercooled in the basement running Folding@home 24/7.

I've not killed a chip yet due to too many volts. And even gave that 1.36 volt prescotts 1.75v's just for fun and to heat up my room this winter!!

but i'd say stay @ 1.7v max or below if you dont want to worry about it.
 
M0 chips, as they are based on the gallatin core with 2 extra metal layers, can take much more, 1.8 volts with high end cooling, 2.0+ with subambient, plus they respond nicely to this kind of voltage, just like EEs do.
 
there is a point where more volts or cooling does nothing more for the chip or isnt really worth the extra heat.

Clock it up and give us some numbers, temps and volts and mhz.
 
I'm running my 2.4C @ 3.1 (260FSB, 5:4 divider) stock hs/fan
1.6volts
mobo: asus p4p800-del
1G geil ultra plat (dual channel 512 x 2)
asus probe reports:

MB temp: 25C idle
pc temp: 30C idle

mb temp: 25C load
pc temp: 38C load

2 instances of Prime 95 runs flawlessly for 24 hours.
Anything above 260FSB crashes windows after a couple minutes. Using single channel, I have been able to get the FSB to 270 using a 3:2 divider.

I just don't want anything to blow up because I fed it too much juice :)

I can't believe that...
I've had my 2.4C running at 3.1 (260fsb, 5:4 divider) with Zalman 7000AlCu heatsink at just 1.575v. Motherboard P4C800-E Deluxe. Idle CPU temp 32-35, load 48-52.

This has been similar to lots of other people I've spoken with, but you're telling me with the stock HSF, you're not getting more than 38 degrees?

Is your case sitting outside in the snow? How the hell can that be, a full 10-15 degrees celcius less on an almost identical setup, with mine at a lower voltage and better cooling?
 
you should be able to do that overclock with default voltage.
 
I'm thinking that the ASUS probe is off by at least 15-20C... but that's what ASUS probe is reading for some odd reason. So just add about 20C and it'll be where it should be I suppose.

Edit: Actually maybe I'm just a noob at getting temp readings... this is the process I use.. I run 2 instances of prime95 and then either run 3dmark03 or some game like farcry for about 15 minutes or so and then quit the game and immediately look at my temp readings...
Is there a better method to getting temps?

asus reads temps lower than actual, dont know by how much.

abit board reads temps higher then actual, from my experience about 8-10C. so when people make fun of my koolance temps of 42-44C and say that their Dtek kits are around 35C, they dont offset that number down to 34-36C that is actually occuring.
 
do you know if your 2.4c is an m0 or a d1?

to get temps i just run prime95 for about an hour or so then use this program called hardware monitor to get the sensor reading. my koolance unit has a temp probe but it is the temperature of the waterblock and not the cpu
 
I don't know any of the numbers that are printed on my CPU. I never bothered to really look.

Edit: I'm going to update my ASUS Probe software and bios and see if I get different temp readings.
 
I upgraded my P4P800-deluxe bios to the newest version and updated my ASUS Probe temp. monitoring software to the latest version as well. I ran 2 instances of Prime95 for about 30 minutes and took the picture at desktop res of 1280 x 960.

What type of case do you have? I have a Chieftec (old Alienware style) so it's pretty big. It only has 2 exhaust fans, I'm buying a 2nd HD soon, and will be getting 2 intake fans when I buy that. It's just got the 2 exhaust fans now, and the PSU is a "dual fan" design. I have all fans (CPU, PS, Case) at full speed.

I still have the BIOS that my MB shipped with, never have updated it because I've never had problems.

I just ran Prime95 and Distributed Folding, and played FarCry. It got higher than ever before, 57C. I'll post a pic later, if necessary. HOWEVER, the temperature in here is very warm. It's probably mid 70s, a little warmer than it usually is. Any idea what temperature it is in your room?

My CPU is an m0 stepping too.

I used to think my temps were fine, but if ASUS is low....mine could easily be at 65-70 under load??!?!

I sure hope not. Maybe I should go reapply my AS5. :(

I'm starting to worry, don't want to fry my CPU...
 
I'm using a chieftec dragon i think it's called.
2 x 80mm intakes in front
1 x 80mm intake on back
2 fans on PSU

My case is right next to the window in my dorm room. The room I'm in is usually pretty cool, sometimes just downright chilly. I'm wondering if ASUS probe reads the temps low? Hoping it doesn't.. but who knows
