Title say it all... I have been lookin all over internet and intel.com. I really don't understand their technical documentation that I found on intel and etc... Is it @ 60C or.... cuz i got around like over 65C with my new cpu E6420 @ 3.5 Ghz with 1.48 vcore and CNPS9500 heatsink.
 
Intel process have thermal protection, so if you hit crital temps the cpu will engage halt states and then just stop. thus preventing damage. however that temp is TDP, C2D can operate as high as 85C, (tho that is the halt state temp) at the core. you will be fine at 65.. :)

so 85'c for e6420 or all C2Ds
 
85C for most C2D processors is when they start to throttle. Some of the new revision L2 E4300 / E6300 / E6400 won't start to throttle until they approach 100C.

As long as your computer is stable under full load, you don't have to worry too much about temps.
 
YOU SHOULD NOTE.:
<60 is perfered. Technically yes you can go into 70's but then you risk damage.

Think about it for a second. Most people wouldnt recommend over 65c

Why would Intel set a throttle point at 85C or 100C on some C2Ds if taking them up to 70C is going to cause damage? If their in house testing showed 70C was causing long term damage, they would have obviously lowered the built in throttle point to less than 70C. They don't want to be spending a pile of money on RMA requests.

Intel specifically designed the Core2Duo with the most accurate thermal monitoring features ever built into a processor so people can reliably run them hotter and get the highest level of performance out of them.
 
65 is higher than I prefer to run, but it is certainly not going to hurt anything. If you are at 65 idle, that is worrisome, but 65 at load is actually pretty good. My E6300 is running 3.15GHz right now at 1.325v and it hits about 63 at load.
