What is the maximum amount of logical cores or CPUs that are you are allowed to use with Windows Vista Ultimate?

Vista continues the same restrictions imposed under XP. No restriction on the number of CPU cores. Home versions can accomodate one physical CPU, whilst Business versions can accomodate two.

That means Ultimate can cope with dual-CPUs, and has no limit on the number of cores in the CPUs which are in use.

Is there any software out that that can fool Vista. I want to run 4x2cores or 4x4 cores if the barcelonas come on soon enough.

Not that I'm aware of. You'd need to run Server 2003 or Server 2008 (Standard) to accomodate 4 physical CPUs.
