Why are glossy finishes appearing on LCDs? Do some people really MISS having all the GLARE they were accustomed to with their CRTs?

I'm told that the glossy coating somehow improves the black level, but I can't imagine that the difference would be dramatic enough to make having all of the glare that comes with a glossy finish worthwhile. Do you glossy fans only use your computers when it's night and all the other lights in the room are off?

A lot of people don't like the crystaline appearance of anti-glare LCD, kind of looks like someone took sandpaper to the screen.

I have only seen glossy in store (with lots of lights) it was an Nec 19"GX monitor. It looked much better than the non gloss screens. I liked it. Thought I probably look at about eight other criteria first before I get to screen finish.

yah same here, i have only seen them in stores, i was looking at one of those Sony LCD's at BB and though to my self, wow the glossy looks kinda good, but then i realized that i could not get any position that did not reflect a crap load of light back at me. So ill stick with my matte finish.

Though they do look really good on laptops (the glossy i mean).

i have a laptop with a glossy screen
no issues with glare here

got a desktop monitor at home with a perspex cover now that has some glare issues :)

I just got my 20WMGX2.

The glossy screen provides no reflection to me. Only time I saw reflection coming from this monitor was when the screen was off and i had 3 lights on to help me see which wires i was hooking up to the monitor.

So yeah, the glossy screen is good.
