The concept of the game is good... but I'm just not getting drawn into the game like I thought I would.... i cant explain it, but I do not have an urge to jump on the PC after work to play the game like I did w/ Crysis, CoD4, and now even a little Warhammer beta action.

i think the fact that this game was designed for consoles and ported to PCs sucks...

halo is kinda the same, altho originally halo was gonna be a PC launch... and the pc version isnt terrible... its an OK fps at best... but its no classic (ducks for cover from the inc flames). dont get me wrong, its a great console fps, but on pc, meh.

A buddy of mine tells me I'll love it, but I'm wary. I'm waiting until the price hits $25 or less, then I'll pick it up and see what I think... ;)

I found it a little tedious at times but it is so good in other parts.
Much of the game is a build up towards the end missions.
Get yourself and your team tooled up.
It gets good.

I played the part of a sniper/geek, satisfying :)

I actually just started playin it today for the pc. I was at the part where the alien dude and the general where explaining me stuff about my mission (about 10 minutes into the game) and vista crashed so I had to turn off UAC. It seems like a lot of dialogue and reading which is fine when I'm in the mood for it.

I really hope it isn't too bad of a port because 15 minutes prior to installing ME I installed halo 2 and deleted it within in 15 minutes. I just couldn't get use to the damn mouse control. It felt TOOOO consolish for my state. But everyone raves about this game so I really want to check it out and get the experience everyone is talking about.

Trust me guys, I was thinking the same thing but stick with it. I am so immersed in this game now it's ridiculous. Me and my team have some serious firepower now it's a total blast.

the only thing thats holding me back from getting ME for pc, are the bugs that come with vista from what i have heard...

Well if you were expecting Mass Effect to be an FPS, I can completely understand why you're less than excited. Since its not really a true FPS, and more of an RPG it will definitely be slower paced.

Mass Effect was really good IMO. Both the maturity of the storyline relative to its peer RPGs and the customizability make it one of my favorites in the past 5 years

I couldn't disagree more. This is the first RPG since KotOR 1 that really sucked me into playing it. It's the first game that I can honestly say that overblown use of graphical effects and bloom lighting really benefited the overall experience of the game.

I loved it, and will play through it again as soon as the DLC is available. I'm on Vista 64, and had zero issues. I didn't see any degrading performance over time, crashes, glitches, anything. It was smooth as silk on the 8800GTS I was running it on at the time with everything maxed. The plot-related missions are excellent. The side quests can get a little tedious if you're not into the landing sequences, but I had a great time all the way through it. I'd highly recommend it.

I played it and played almost none of the side quests. I focused solely on quests that I knew were needed to advance the plot. I was still plenty high enough in level and skills to finish the game and it never became tedious or stale and the main plot stayed at the forefront. Doing this I still played for just over 20 hours which is by no means a short game. One of the best endings ever in my opinion.

Edit: Played on Vista 32 and did not have a single crash or glitch.

Main story was great, little short tho, i was working on the long side missions and they were awful. After finishing a few and get nothing more than little blip saying i finished the quest I said screw it and finished the main story, just wasn't any incentive for me to finish the side quest after that.

A little more variety in the opponents would have made things last longer as well.
Overall good game look forward to the rest of the series.

Works flawlessly in Vista for me. Just make sure both video and sound drivers and Direct X are all up to date and you will be golden.

I loved KOTOR but couldn't get drawn into ME.

It was a decent game, but ultimately a forgettable one for me.

I'm really digging Mass Effect. I'm totally blown away by the level of detail and how much design has gone into everything.

I think the reason you feel this way is because after work, you just want to get into something that you can jump in for a few minutes to an hour, and just have fun.

While I did enjoy the game because of the immersive storyline, good graphics etc; I found the game short (despite doing all the quests). It was a great experience on the first run, but i don't think i'll be doing a replay.

The reason for this is because the battles became monotonous (especially on the side quests) and there are no real incentives to do side missions because you are not rewarded with special weapons/armors etc. It would have been a nice touch if there were special stuff you can get for finishing or killing enemy bosses.

Overall it was fun for me, but i can see why others find it boring.

Does the PC version feature a save anywhere system? The checkpoint saving is frustrating me on the 360 version, especially the planetary missions.

[minor spoilers ahead] I lost this nice looking (and functional) armor on the Quarian chick because there was apparently some land designated as lava that did not appear to be lava and the game started me back all the way at the landing on the planet, losing all collections and battles. Jesus what a timesucking game. Luckily I've not played an MMO where usually timesuck is the mission. The 360 version stutters as it loads quite a bit, loading screens are everywhere, elevator rides unnecessarily long. I hate the parts where they throw 15 enemies at you at once and your squad mates get stuck on a wall 100 yards back and my character so far is the sniper which is useless because you're only trained in the pistol or rifle and the rifle is desultory up close, nearly useless from afar and you get rushed by these zombie type characters who go jihadist bombing near you. Seems like a deep game but I am glad I only rented it.

Mouse + this game, is uber awesome thats all i can say. As with the GoW PC port.

Mass effect didn't do anything for me. Haven't gotten very far, as i basically have to FORCE myself to play. That means i'm not having fun, and if i'm not having fun, what's the point?

I've had friends tell me to "keep going, it gets better". My problem is, if it sucks this badly (for me) then even when it gets better, will it be fun then? Or only suck less.

Bioware has been pissing me off lately. What happened to an adventure/rpg that was just that. Jade empire, RPG and fighting game. ME, RPG and shooter. How about just a damn RPG for once? And not some damn port either.

Meh, I've been LOVING Mass Effect. I can see how if you were expecting a shooter, or maybe less talking... actually I do skip through some of the dialogue once in a while of the extra stuff just to kind of get the XP, heh... but the story so far plays out like a movie, it's a ton of fun I think. I'm I believe halfway through the game, finished 2 of the 3 missions you're supposed to go out to do, but doing some side missions along the way.

All I know is that I've spent a few nights up longer than I should have on this game :D

I was using it as a time waster but the more I get into it the more I like it. It is heavily consolized though but meh. Great story well told. Don't buy it for the combat though. There is shooting and combat but, it is tedious (to me...ymmv) and your squadmates require WAY too much supervision for my tastes. You might like that.....I don't. I'm liking it better though now that I have the power to bring them back to life. I just do my thing, when we run into trouble I hit the space bar and use my squadmates biotic attacks then wipe the rest out myself. They usually die pretty quickly but I just use my Jedi....woops...ahem....Spectre powers to revive them and we go on with the mission.

Definately worth a play. Hell, it scores a 90 on Metacritic and has a buttload of reviews. Makes it worth a play in my book. 3rd person RPG/Shooters are NOT my cup of tea but I am still liking this one.

It is a little difficult at first, because like has been said before, you CANNOT play it like a FPS... if you do, you WILL die, and a lot. I started playing as a soldier but then started over as an Adept (a lot of fun IMO), but it does take planning and taking a second to think about what power you need to use and who you need to take out first. There have been a couple of battles that I died repeatedly and had to try a new tactic each time to see what worked... But I think that's been fun, it's a challenge and different gameplay from the norm.

.

Yes...so long as you are not in battle or a transition area (e.g. elevator), you can save anywhere.

Or close to enemies... sometimes I thought there was nobody around but still couldn't save... MOST of the time you can save, but I think there are specific spots where saving is not allowed.

You can save or quicksave (F6) *mostly* anywhere/anytime on the PC as long as there are no hostiles around.

I keep fencing sitting about getting this game...I'm dying for a good RPG experience though, so maybe I will pick it up yet anyway. the MMO side of RPG's has been letting me down far too much to want to keep at it...this may be the welcome change for me

ME is nothing close to KotOR1/2 or VtM:Bloodlines. Even Jade Empire is rated higher on my book. Too much graphixxx and few substance compared to these other games.
