I'm going to go with... plea of desperation....

Played through ME1-3 dozens of times... tons of various saves backed up, mods, you name it.

I could barely get through a couple hours of ME:A before just shelving it. Such a disappointment. :(
 
I'm going with desperation, but I think it's a great move. Bring back the shareware days and any good game will get a boost in sales. This cuts both ways, as we've previously discussed on other threads.
 
after they took something great and shat on their player bases chest with the 3rd one. OFC people are not hyped for this completely new series set in that universe.
 
Good move by EA to attract additional players but I'm not going to give ME:A a go. Looks too horrid to me.
 
I just finished my ME:A playthrough a few weeks ago. I don't think it's THAT bad, or even bad at all. But, you can tell they lost their way on it. The story is tolerable, the gameplay is solid, and the graphics are decent outside of the weird facial stuff which isn't THAT distracting to me. It's got good bones, but I think the devs knew at some point in the process the plug was going to be pulled and started phoning it in. Like most things that EA touches.

Frankly ME: A plays like the missing piece of No Man's Sky.
 
Nope. I remember shareware used to actually be no time or play limits of the first level / area of games, heck, even the very first game episode.

Anyway again, nope. Even if I woke up to find this installed and waiting at the game menu, which meant it cost me nothing in data, time or effort to get I'd still not play M.E:sjw.

On Topic: If you're interested in the game the demo won't convince you, the meat of the story and a better feel for what you have in front of you goes well beyond what you can play in the 10 hour demo. When I played it I think I covered everything in less than 6 hours.

Rant: Whenever I see someone drop "SJW" or "Agenda" about this game it tends to make me think people are sheep and or are easily offended. There is ONE transgender character in the game, you basically have to do every nook and cranny side mission to find them and the character MIGHT have 3 lines of dialogue; honestly when I did find the character I blew through the dialogue so quickly I didn't know anything "special" about them until people started raging on forums and youtube. As far as gay characters go you've been able to bang people outside your race and gender in Bioware games for like 10 years now, people actually still bat at eye at this?

I don't recall any outrage over Morinth the gender neutral blue tentacle murder lesbian in ME: 2. The world is a funny place.
 
I pretty much hate Origin. If this was on steam/gog I would not mind. If it's Origin no thanks. From watching videos. I do like the looks of the game engine. They made the game world very big with nothing really too do. I also like the Nomad. Does not save the game from being pointless. The voice acting was okay even if the devs made bad choices in voice actors for certain characters. Mass effect series died with ME3.

Sadly for the trial, the first 10 hours of the game are the worst. It gets better from there. I liked the game quite a bit, and since it is always on sale these days I think it is well worth your time. Is it as good the original trilogy? No, but it is much better than all the internet bashing.
 
bought the game earlier this week it seems fine to me. I am 14 hours in.
 
I think it speaks volumes about the very poor gameplay and worst verbal audio tracks in gaming history ...

I find the gameplay to be fine and don't find any issues with the audio tracks. So outside of some people having outside issues with the game, whatever that SJW bullshit is, think some of you might just be inventing reasons to hate the game. Which again is all the more reason that Half-life 3 should never be made. Because as it has been said, at this point everyone is going to have some unrealistic expectation of the game and when it comes out and is "just a normal game" everyone will be pissed off that it didn't stand up to some unrealistic idea. Same here, for somebody that has never played any games in the series, minus whatever was true very early on before any fixes, the game is fine. Voices are fine, animations are fine, gameplay seems fine. Only real issue with that so far is sometime I have to walk around somebody to talk to them and wish I could talk to them no matter what direction we are looking at each other, but that is it so far. I have seen far worse everything in other games than what I see in this game.

I'd be keen to have it if you're offering - I'm a huge ME fan and whilst I'm skeptical about this one, I'd still like to have a go at it :)
 
It's Mass Effect, but you're not playing Shepard. Remember that and pay attention to the details starting out- dunno why people have a problem about that, it's like people who nap during a movie and then walk out confused, except they're making asses of themselves here. Can't promise anyone they'll like it, but it's a good game.

It's space? I look at it in this way, the universe is infinite, there will be super sentient specs of dust on some planets and quad gender (who knows right?) walking space slugs on another, so you should not be offended by a game! Just have fun with it! Now, if it's set on Earth, taking on issues currently happening and pushing a message, yeah sure, get mad bro; send them a letter and don't pay for it. It's just a game anyway though, chill.

I will say this about ME...The alien that runs the Ark or whatever? I F'in hate his voice more than nails on a chalkboard, just want to rip his alien face off. The whiny one, with the indian accent, ooohhhhhh I hate that guy!!!

Hating Tan makes some of the dialog later on more impactful- this is one game where they got cursing right.
 
VERY MINOR SPOILER ALERT!

I grabbed the trial for the hell of it - but it's not 10 hours for as far as you can get, it's 10 hours or up until you've unlocked the three monoliths and about to go underground. So it's a lie anyway.

It's actually both- it's ten hours of playtime, and you're locked out of the second vault (first was on the first world). If I remember correctly, it seemed to give you time to sample the multi-player as well. No lies here, just not what you were necessarily expecting.

It's also exactly what they did for the pre-release preview.
 
The irony is that picture is not even from MEA. That's why we can't have nice things.

I agree, it's not a bad game at all. People praised the shit out of Prey, but it's a worse game by a decent margin than MEA. MEA is worse than the trilogy that's for sure. But it's well worth playing at least once if you're into scifi games. The ending is very well done imo. There is a lot of grind in the game, but if you understand that those are optional then you can probably finish the game in the same time as the old ME games.
It's also a better game than DA:I in my opinion. So it's not the disaster it was made out to be. But it certainly lacks depth and it doesn't have the re playability of the old ones. I never for one second though it was a waste of money to pre-order. I cannot say the same about prey for example.

If you get bogged down with the grindy stuff then it could take up to 50 hours for the story to start picking up. But the gameplay is not bad, so I didn't feel the need to stop doing the grind.

You don't know what you're talking about. Acceptance towards bi and transgender people is not SJWism. Most would have had no problem with the game if it was only that. As you pointed out and defeated your own argument previous ME games had gay characters and flip flopping characters as well. And nobody raised their voice. Well expect for you know who.
No the problem is much more settle (unless you look at the prequel novel, which is not at all settle regressive propaganda all the way) . The thing that people have a problem with is the purposed uglification of characters. Especially the asari, as they were according to the lore beautiful looking as a species up until the point when some sjw designer decided that can't stand.
And that they made the female lead a goofy looking weird thing instead of looking like the model they started out with. If that's not a clear statement of agenda then nothing is. Also some decisions in the game are clearly made out to be not logical. As in

If you choose to put a military base on a a hostile, inhospitable planet instead of a research station of which two had already been destroyed on the planet the game will go out of its way to punish you for it trough the entire rest of it.
This to me is a clear indication of an SJW agenda here. That feelings trump logic and reason in the story. The game punishes you and mocks you for using logic. And this is still nothing compared to the novel which has an sjw rating of over 9000. It's cesspool of misandry and science denial. That novel is so bad that it's beyond belief. I mean the main plot of the story trough the first few chapters is that the main (female) character accidentally kicked a bulkhead and her toe hurts. And how she fantasises about kicking the ass of the lead salarian for using reason instead of gut feelings. Because as you know in SJW land it's not just OK but benevolent to assault people as long as they have differing political views.

So please don't say to me that there is nothing to get upset about. It might be settle in the game, but the novel proves beyond any reasonable doubt, the direction they're headed in. And if we don't push back now, it will only get worse. I agree it's not bad in the game yet. But it's only a matter of time before the game will be like the novel if we don't resist. I don't even understand why you use "sheep" to describe people complaining. I though sheep were those who just get in line and accept every change no matter how detrimental it is. Standing up for what you believe in is the opposite of being sheep.

If a game says to me 'You have 10 hours of free trial playtime' but without mentioning the single player campaign will be blocked at a certain point, then it's at the very least a bit deceptive.

They're two completely unrelated things just because they mention a 10 hour limit doesn't mean there aren't any other limits. What does that change anyway? Don't tell me the only reason you're not buying the game is because the demo version ends before the 10 hours is up.
The nerve to complain about something that is completely free and without obligation.

Actually I did buy it as I was enjoying it, so get down off your high horse and stop being arrogant.

My point was only that the description itself was a bit deceptive, nothing more. It's true that a 10-hour limit doesn't necessarily mean that there are not other limits, but then I think those limits should be at least mentioned casually, in passing... if you disagree with that, fine, but then don't go on a self-righteous attack with lines like 'the nerve', when you have zero chance of knowing whether or not I bought it at all.

I don't think I was arrogant. I posed a legitimate question. And if you purchased the game, then your complaint is even more baseless. As the purpose of the demo is to make you buy the game, nothing else. It achieved that purpose.
I don't see why they would be obligated to mention that you cannot progress after a certain point in the story even if you didn't spend the 10 hours yet. They're giving it free, that means there is no place for complaint. Unless they specifically mentioned that the game is completely unlimited apart from the 10 hours time cap.
