I am getting around to looking at ME2 today using Eyefinity, or so I thought I would. Has anyone got this game to work with EF and larger than usual resolutions? Hoping I am missing something simple here, but the game is not identifying available resolutions to it through the OS. Thanks.

This post below outlines the fix for PORTRAIT EF. Seems as though Landscape EF is still hosed. :( Thanks for morfinx for spelling out the answers for now.

I will be getting with AMD on this EF issue.

If its run with the unreal 3 3d engine you should beable to change the .ini file to any resolution you want. Also there was a (set custom resolution) switch in the .ini or it might have been (allow custom resolution). X-Men origins had the problem where it would only allow 1280x720P for max resolution and I had to change those two things to make 1920x1080P work correct. This is just a thought if it even use's ut3's game engine.

If its UT3 find the .ini and search for these command line switch's

[SystemSettings]
ResX=xxxx
ResY=xxxx

UserSelectedResolution=True

You have to make sure once you set the resolution in the .ini that you also change that UserSelectedResolution=True
Then make sure you dont go back into the resolution part of the games settings or it will change it back on you.
This is only irrelavent if its UT3 code.

Thanks,
Josh

Resolution is one thing... but is it Vert- like the first Mass Effect? You could change the resolution to extreme triple wide ones in the first one, but since it was Vert-, the FOV was completely wrong (zoomed in letterbox). You could manually change the FOV to compensate, however it broke the gun zoom and the 2D menus would still be missing on your in game screen...

Anyone know if these same issues plague Mass Effect 2?

Hmm, made changes to everything in the defaultEngine.ini file that looked like it would help, three places, but nada. No UserSelectRes command that I can find.

Code:
[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
StartupFullscreen=false
StartupResolutionX=3600
StartupResolutionY=1920

[SystemSettings]
ResX=3600
ResY=1920
UseVsync=True
Fullscreen=True

[SystemSettingsEditor]
ResX=3600
ResY=1920

And argue about PhysX in another thread please, no mine on Eyefinity and resolution. Thanks.

Im sorry I forgot that I had to add that (UserSelectedResolution) command line in manually. Just copy and paste it under the [Systemsettings] Path....

so you cant set the reso or you cant see you hud? because in the original mf - i could set my reso through the panel and widen out the fov through the console... but i could never get the game hud to display properly

odd that they'd change the engine so fundamentally from game 1 to game 2...

Hey Kyle, I assume you are running Portrait Eyefinity like me. It's working for me fine. You can't select 3600x1920 in-game, but you CAN select it if you launch ME2's configuration utility (from the game's launch menu). Make sure you select aspect ratio to 16:9 (or is it 16:10?) first.

Check out this thread for more pics and details (sumary: Portrait EF works, Landscape does not):

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=18199

See my post/picture on page 3 (it's scaled down from 3600x1920).

Awesome, thank you very much. Very dissappointed that this does not support the right FOV for landscape, anyone here know the WideScreenFixer guy????

Here is the configurator. Just right click on the game in your Steam window to find the "Mass Effect 2 Launcher" option.

It has the same issues with Eyefinity as Mass Effect 1. The top and bottom of the screen gets cropped for widesceen rather than expanding horizontally.

So much for Bioware's claim that they wanted to "do the PC port right" this time.

That's disappointing... Now I'm in a bit of conundrum. I've wanted to play this game for a while but I don't know if I should wait to see if it gets patched for eyefinity (like Dragon Age did)... or wait for a community hack / fix.... or just go ahead and play it on perhaps portrait mode. Ugh.

Pretty dissapointing this game doesn't work, with my setup in landscape.

The threads over at wsgf are a bit funny. People pretty much called bowman out for having mass effect 2 plastered all over literature for eyefinity when it doesn't function properly in landscape.

His answer was more or less that the game being advertised as such just indicated they were working with the developer, not that eyefinity worked properly with the game.

I thought this was one of the games that AMD used on their eyefinity promo as being approved. I haven't installed my copy and this pisses me off if i'm going to have to jump through hoops to get my eyefinity working.

It was on AMD's Eyefinity partner list. However, there's a pretty good list of "Eyefinity-supported" games that can do landscape, but not portrait or vise-versa.

That said, I'd really like to try ME2 in landscape. The bezels really cut up screen in a bad way with the in-game conversations when running 3x1 portrait. Hopefully a fix for ME2 and ME1 is coming.

I've actually have been testing the EF Set up with ME2... Some very strange things have been happening. Either the game is greatly magnified at higher resolutions or it will revert to each monitor having its own image of the main screen hud.

If you would like me to test anything out using this set up, feel free to hit me up.

I highly doubt we'll see anything for ME1. The game has received a whole 2 patches since 2008 and both Bioware and Demiurge seem to have stopped caring about it.

If they fix this for ME2 you'd think they'd do the same for ME1 since it should be extremely easy to implement. I bought ME1 on sale from Steam and I can't play it the way it is on my Eyefinity setup.

Yeah I'm really disappointed about this. I can't really do portrait with my setup, so it's landscape or nothing.

Came across this though, so with any luck a patch is forthcoming:

Goddamnit... I'm 12 hours in on a single monitor. I knew I should've waited for the eyefinity patch. Oh well, 2nd playthrough anyone? One of the loading tips did mention that you get 'strong bonuses' on a 2nd playthrough.

Are those bonuses really needed? If it's anything like the first game you are a god by like level 10.

could always play it on a higher difficulty. Normal mode has thus far been really easy anyway.
I'm playing through on Insanity with the DLC and the 2nd playthrough bonuses.
The armor stats from the DLC are helpful at the start because you don't have any other gear, also I got some free guns right at the start which appear to be the best in the game.

I think your decision on the final mission might impact which bonuses you get on the 2nd playthrough; I read the item descriptions and it makes references to the choice I made.

It feels like a totally different game on Insanity, it took me about 30 minutes to finish one firefight on Zaeed's mission. The only downside is the length of the load screens each time you die...

Nothing new on this yet? I purchased the game this weekend, but have shelved it until the eyefinity is working. Kinda bummed. I don't have enough time to play a game twice- I have to rearange things just to find time to play it once!

You could play in Portrait EF. Just beat the game yesterday :)

Since ME 1 Turned out to be one of my favorite games ever , I ordered ME2 off of Steam. I haven't played it yet, though.

I'm waiting for fermi, and to see what it has to offer. If it is't as good as Eyefinity, I'll be gettinga 5870 or a 5970 and playng the shit out of this.

hope the patch is out by then.

No word from AMD on this working for landscape EF. :(

Without making a separate thread I thought I'd chime in with the fact that Global Agenda does not support Eyefinity because the developers think it gives an unfair advantage.

Pitchforks out, lads!

time we set the UE3 out to pasture :)

God yes....

Can you give me some linkage on this, I want to address it. We just got off the phone with Rebellion/AVP devs in the UK and we specifically addressed this.

Any word on a patch kyle? I'm still waiting to install.

Nope, tested it again last night, you can't play mass effect at 5760x1200...can NOT see the menus in-game. :(

What about portrait mode? I'm running the same portrait EF configuration as you Kyle...I tried ME1 at 3600x1920 and it cut off the top and bottom of the UI, is this issue present in ME2?

You didn't read this thread did you? :) See post #8 and #19.

Different game but didn't want to make a new thread about it. FPS game that came out at the beginning of February.

Link to their forum thread on it

I bought the game unfortunately, played for an evening, uninstalled. The game was less appealing than reclaiming 10GB of SSD space. Some people are finding it fun though and it is a little outrageous in 2010 for a dev to use 'unfair advantage' as a reason for not supporting it.

You got me stirred up....
