Marvel's Spider-Man 2

In any event, if they want better player numbers and sales, they need to port games to PC earlier, ideally simultanously with other platforms, and make both the games and the PC version high quality. Spider-Man 2

I think pricing is the biggest issue...charging full price 2+ years later is not the right move...most of the Sony ports have been in pretty good shape...Spider-Man 2 and Last of Us: Part 1 is not the norm...the games that been released in fairly good to great shape like God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West still didn't seem to sell all that well on PC

I am not sure if a mouse+keyboard like multiplayer shooter success like Helldivers 2 is a perfect 1:1 example for the made for TV-controller title.

It is trivial that an earlier release and better port (or cheaper) would sell more units, not sure that make it the best move for them, not so much that they get larger percentage of the sales if they are sold on the psstore than steam, but to not turn the playstation into an other Xbox. There is value in forcing people into buying an PS5, once they have one, the chance they buy their next games via the PS gamestore is much higher.

According to sony pc games sales (in revenues) were as of march 2022 of $60 millions for Horizon zero dawn and 22.7 for days gone, 26.2m for god of wars... (https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/irday/pdf/2022/GNS_E.pdf)

60 millions do sound quite good (the game with more time to sales), they seem to average $25 per sales for an old title, $27 for a more recent one.

If the sequel sold 75% of the first one (looking at all time peak players on steam), 175-180k units for 45 millions maybe ?

For already monetized game doing extra business late in their cycle, I do not know game sales, but that sound like it would be good.

They wouldn't sell so poorly if these games were released simultaneously on both platforms. This game has its own widely spread issues that probably tempered interest in it. On PS5 the game has sold half as many copies of the first game did on the PS4 alone.

That and the Marvel craze is dying down. The recent movies are kind of lame and I think people are tired of super hero stuff.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PC Launches with Big Issues

A 7900 XTX, Very High settings, Ultimate RT settings at 4K, FSR 3.1 is getting over 100fps, no stutters, smooth frame times. Game is taking 18gb of vram, maybe a vram issue with the 5080 when using RT is causing the spikes in frame times and stutters. Plus much cleaner less noisy visuals while still having the usual FSR issues but looks to be very usable at least. Since game has FSR 3.1, it should be ready for using FSR 4 once the 9070 and 9070XT comes out. I would expect AMD hardware would have less issues initially since developed on AMD hardware, I don't have the game, but it looks like a RT title that will have no issue on my 7900XTX.

Good to know they're patching it and even aside from the patching, its playing very well on 7900XTX with RT FSR 3.x I am curious how well it will do with an updated version on older GPUs (NV 3000 series, AMD 6000 series - which played Spider-Man Remastered/ Miles Morales well) as well as on newest and older GPUs alike without FSR / DLSS. In any event, its good to see its playable on AMD and that in all cases things are improving. While I understand that drive to review things on the newest NV 5000 series cards given their power, between the newness and possible driver issues and the fact this game was launched on PS5, it should be very performant on other hardware.

Edit: They'd be smart to not only update/fix the game, but start authorizing bigger discounts/sales to encourage people to buy and give the title a chance. Maybe they planned to wait longer since its new, but other Sony titles have gone on more aggressive sales and still did well despite not needing the uplift as much as they usually had some sort of Positive rating.

I'm finally getting around to this and I find myself not really enjoying it like I expected. With them changing all of my gadgets to work off that separate meter (that also heals) I feel like I have a zillion tools the game doesn't want me to actually use. I'm able to do the standard parry, punch launcher, air combo, dodge, etc. stuff over and over but it kinda feels tedious. Every time I try to get fancy or try to use some gadgets, I'm out of juice and stuck using nothing but fundamentals until I can refill that damned meter again. Zipping around and doing non-combat stuff also seems to have 0 bearing on that meter, too. In the old games, I was looking for trouble and I enjoyed the hell out of the combat. Piling up big combos and feeling like a super hero. Now I avoid it because it feels even more tedious than the other tedious stuff. The story and plot portion is really good, but I'm finding the gameplay to be a drag. Performance is mostly fine, but I'm struggling to actually sit down and play this.

I can't say for sure as I own but haven't played the proper version yet (Lets say I uh.."demoed the unofficial modded version" awhile back, before the official one came to PC. . Really it was quite impressive, but maybe there are differences in the official one, but the unofficial still would have been a more or less exact replica of the PS5's content at the time), but I THINK some of those issues may open up when you unlock some of the talent tree stuff. Gadgets (which I still remember as being separate?) and tthe healing/special-combo-attack meter are a bit hard to come by early on and you don't have the same flow capability as you did especially if you were playing Spider-Man Remastered or Miles Morales later in the game, but I think it gets better. The "talent tree" is more expansive and has branches that are both shared between characters and those that are exclusive to each one ; some things like boosting the energy meter or XP by doing tricks when flying/swinging, or other traversal and combat options are in those trees. Of course, certain abilities and other content are locked behind upgrading/unlocking new costumes just as in previous games, but those usually aren't the "core" abilities.

Maybe they changed enough stuff in ways you don't enjoy, but if your primary concern is those mechanics it may just be that they haven't expanded to giving you all the pieces yet given the larger scope in this regard.?

I didn't have any issues enjoying combat when I played it on PS5. If anything I think the addition of powers really makes the combat enjoyable and interesting throughout. Especially when you unlock the second set of powers it is even more interesting. Can you post a pic of which gadget/tool refresh is causing you problems? I also thought that I was OP throughout the game on normal difficulty. Maybe there were some shield enemies that gave me grief but there is one gadget that makes quick work of them as well after a while.

It's possible I might just be trying to do too much too early, but I feel like I can pretty much never heal. I have a pile of powers and gadgets (3 for Peter, 4 for Miles) but they seem to take forever to refresh after using them and they don't seem to be actually doing that much damage. They also don't seem to be raising the little meter that lets me heal. In fact, almost nothing except parrying does anything to that meter. It's the one with 2 little bubbles below your health. In general, I'm thinking the game is wanting me to parry way, way more. Dodging works against gunfire, but it seems completely ineffective against flamethrowers, big dudes punching, Kraven guys swinging axes, the "dog" robots, etc. Basically anything that can kill me in like 2 hits. I feel like I'm permanently low in health because that heal meter is permanently low/empty in spite of my combo counts being at 50+. The only time I heal is when I gain levels. I think that's part of my problem. I'm forever low in health and I have no clue how to fix that.

Without an actual screenshot I would be hard pressed to help you as I played this game on release (which I think was 2023 Q4 or something).

My suggestion would be to:
- try playing with a controller (makes using powers a breeze)
- try doing some sides as you move along or also move along the story as you go as it gives you quite a bunch of XP
- try to parry a lot as it is required - the yellow attacks (if I remember correctly need to be parried which opens up for some beating)
- the red attacks you have to dodge so don’t get caught in those as they do most damage
- I also think one of the biggest upgrades to combat was that unlike 1 in this multiple enemies attack at once (it doesn’t suffer from ass creed or Spiderman 1 combat where enemies would wait before the other guys attack finishes); this makes combat harder and more fun in this one
- don’t get caught up in sword attacks - those also cause a lot of damage

Hope this helps. I will see if I can logon to my PS5 and understand what you are talking about as game is installed. Final point, combat is harder in this one. So you need to learn the momentum. But once you do boy does it satisfy you like no other. When I played it I gave it a 9.5/10 or something because I absolutely loved this game. So I am biased.

Okay, I'm getting more into the swing of things and I think my issues were a weird combination of being underpowered and timing. For a little while all of the random crimes around town were being committed by "the flame" gang. Those enemies were way stronger than anything else I've encountered and the game was throwing like 20 of them at me at once. The parry/dodge timing on their flamethrowing and Molotov throwing guys was tight, too. After getting a little further, the game just straight up replaced them entirely with Kraven's posse and things have been much easier. I've cleared all of the Mysterio missions and whatnot without much trouble. I have way more gadgets and powers that have multiple uses, too.

That said, I still find myself rarely ever able to heal. I have a lot of powers stacked that supposedly increase the healing meter quicker, but it's still dry most of the time. It matters less as I've gotten a larger health bar, but it does still matter.

...and now I've come to realize that the healing ability directly overlaps with the Y+B ability. It's what was always draining that meter. That's why I could never heal :p

Things finally really hit stride the further you get. As bad as the first 1/4 of the game was, the later sections have been pretty stellar. Better than anything in the first 2 titles. I think I'm pretty close to the end as I just hit max level and now have all the gadgets/upgrades/abilities.

If anyone ends up buying this and thinks the game is no good (I did), keep plugging away at the story missions. Don't bother with and side stuff until the story takes a pretty big turn. You'll know when it happens.
