marvell annouces the first PCIe5.0 SSD controller

Don't get too excited, it's a 9/9.8W 8/16 channel controller for big enterprise SSDs. Hopefully a cut down model will be out soon enough that consumer PCIe5 SSDs will be out at the same time that Alderlake makes the interface available to us.

thats great news! From what I read last night, the Alder lake PCIe5 is only going to be the 16x slot on the motherboard and won't even support NVME 5.0 :( lets hope thats not true.

Where did you read that? I've not seen any specifics on Alderlake's PCIe5 beyond that it will exist. If the 4 CPU lanes for an SSD are only going to be PCIe4 that's a major disappointment because faster storage is the only spot where consumer workloads will see any initial benefit from PCIe5.

I can't remember where I read it off the top of my head. But, I just got done watching a new video from Moore's law and he also states the same thing.

IMO i think Intel would be smarter then that.

It will be. The industry isn't looking to move to consumer PCIe5 storage anytime soon.
