Has anyone played this yet ? I have looked at the videos and for $20 I am thinking of picking it up but wouldn't mind hearing from others first.

I watched out 30 mintues of a live stream of it today which put my opinion at "this game is a fucking waste of 20 bucks". If you do buy it please share your impressions.

I will. I have heard one person refer to it as if Mass Effect and Dragon Age had a baby but from watching the combat trailer I don't see how that person got to that conclusion.

From what I watched today the combat appeared to be the worst part of the game.

Combat seems more like Batman Arkham series. Would like to hear reviews before biting on it tho.

Huh

Not interested. Third person is not my cup of tea.

Mine either, the only game that I've got into that was 3rd person was Skyrim and if it wasn't for being able to go first person, I don't think I would have as many hours in that game either.

Though I have been playing the new Tomb Raider and it's slowly growing on me, yet I only have ~4 hours in the game out of 700+ in my steam library.

I bought the game from GMG for $16.

Overall I am enjoying it. Now for $16 it not bad and it is a good time killer. If I had paid $49 for it I would be dissapointed, but considering some of the AAA turds I have played recently, this is doing well.
Combat is similar to Witcher 2, not Batman. You can dive around and attack from the rear, and you directly control it. It is a little clunky, and nowhere as polished as Witcher 2, but not the brain dead timed clicking of Batman. (though the Batman fights are visually entertaining)
You have skills you can invest in and have "Traits/Perks" you can choose as you level. It adds a bit more game depth.
Voice acting and translation is a bit poor. But this is often the case when you deal with foreign devs. I can overlook this, due to price.
You seem to have a main storyiline, and then get sid-quests that you can accomplish. They are not overly complicated, or imaginative, but they are about the standard fare.

Overall. I think it is worth the $16. Especially when upi consider some DLCs are running at around $10-$20, offer nothing new to gameplay and are typically only a couple hours long. At least here you are getting a full game.

6.5/10

Reviews seem to be all over the place for this game.

I think that is due in large part to it not being as polished as your standard AAA game. I can overlook that most mainstream review sites won't.

So far the game seems to be starting out well. I've only put a few hours but I've been enjoying it so far.

Its ok, it kinda just ends abruptly. and after a while you get crazy op. plus after your get about half way through the game there isn't much to spend "money" on. i kept picking it up but in the end i had piles of cash and no where to spend it. The voice acting is total shit it plays out like a b sifi movie. but even factoring in all that i still enjoyed the over all experience, and don't regret spending the. money.

Not interested. Third person is not my cup of tea.

The 3rd person view is kinda borked too. In tight areas and against walls your character can be hidden from view. Maybe I'll run a 'different choices' session. $20 isn't unreasonable but you don't come away from it thinking 'Wow"

Yea I have just finished it.

Hm... It's not bad game . Actually it is quite enjoyable if you don't compare it to big budget RPG.

Honest review here to help you make a decision ( No spoiler)

mars war logs game review

Have fun!

i been playing this and so far its fun, i just gout to the first town, and its a fun game but has some issues

Played this for about an hour and I'm pretty engrossed with the game so far. I'd grab Witcher 2 or the new Tomb Raider on the Summer sale over this any day, but it's enjoyable. Not a bad game for an Indie studio.

In theory they are redoing the english voices; has that been released yet ?

If anyone is still interested in this it's on sale for 10$ today on steam, I bought it as I love these types of games but if it's not your usual cup of tea you might not think so.

However I use primarily the 360 controller and love melee combat and shorter rpg games as I like to play my games, after I play this game I'll review it.

I read user metacritic reviews and watched the Steam video (just dev talking about the game) and I bought it instantly. Looks like a hybrid of Witcher gameplay with cyberpunked Red Faction story. Will report back in 2-3 hours.

Very good game guys do NOT believe the critical reviews, maybe they were based on initial release or something but this game is great so far. I don't see the huge complaints about the voice acting tbh, many MANY classic games have had much worse (Gothic 2, anyone?). Great skill tree, great music, story is solid so far, game is totally MATURE (there is a prison rape scenario in the first 20 minutes and plenty of cursing) and you can tell the people that made this game really put their heart and soul into it. Unless the game drops off severely after the first hour or two it's going to be a cult classic for sure. If you like The Witcher, Mass Effect, KOTOR, or the original Dragon Age, this game is a no brainer.

I just bought 3 more copies and sent them to friends.

I'll probably pick it up but tons of cursing isn't mature. It is in fact very childish. True maturity is handing strong subject manner in a way that does not make light of it or come off as put there because the developers thought it would be cool.

Example: Gears of War is very childish (a few surprisingly well done story beats aside) while the Witcher series is mostly mature. How many times someone says "fuck" doesn't matter at all when it comes to maturity. The more someone says it the less mature they appear. I find excessive swearing in games, movies, or books to be very off-putting because it almost always feels forced.

I will. I have heard one person refer to it as if Mass Effect and Dragon Age had a baby but from watching the combat trailer I don't see how that person got to that conclusion.

Looks like if it were a Spartan baby they would toss it on the pile

I don't mind cursing in games. I played this game for almost 2 hours and the experience so far is excellent. The game poses a decent challenge on medium settings and the combat feels realistic and weighty. The game is pretty linear from what I can tell but the voice acting is good quality and the graphics are good quality as well.

This is a really great sleeper hit. People that hate on this are alt-tabbing out of COD or Simcity 2013 imo.

I bought it on the steam sale and played it for about 1 hour and then never got back to it. I plan to play it when I have more time but I didn't see anything that would make me not want to finish it.

Its an RPG that has you on mars starting out as a POW.

Played it about 8 hours so far, the dialog and quest are well done even though it has a lot of collect these 3 items sort of quest.

I'm surprised you guys like this game. The graphics, animations, voice acting, and combat system are all ridiculously terrible. The quests are fetch quests and the environments are bland and uninteresting. Terrible game.

I just beat the game, and I liked it. The animations were pretty decent, the voice acting was much better then normal rpg fair like Gothic or Two Worlds and the combat system was simple but fun. Granted the quest were pretty simple but after getting used to the map the fetch part about them takes very little time to accomplish. I'm not sure the game really has all that much replayablility to it but it was an interesting story. I'm pretty sure I won't be replaying it anytime soon as though I had fun the game is pretty linear and even though it gives you a few different choices there isn't enough freedom to really warrant a second play-through. Even with it's shortcomings I thought it was a solid game and I'd give it a 7/10.

I picked it up when it was $7 recently. It does the little things right so far. manual saves, can change difficulty mid game, can skip cut scenes. I have only gotten 20 minutes in so I am just past my first fight but I am enjoying it so far.
