Market miscalculation with 6800GTs?

In light of this 6800GT craze going on, it seems to me like the video card market made a huge miscalculation in terms of demand.

Klipsch manufactures and sells their own products, so when Klipsch says their speakers are backordered, it means theres a lot of demand and they need to make more of them. That makes sense. But when it comes to the 6800GT, it's a GPU that has been integrated into at least a half-dozen manufacturing companies models, so there shouldn't be any question of supply. So how can it be sold out accross the map so quickly? Did the manager at BestBuy just order 200 units when he should have gotten 1000? If it was just a few stores, that would make sense, but it's literally been sold out practically anywhere you look. Worse yet, stores are saying that they won't get ther cards back in stock untill August 15th.

How can this be? I don't want people to think I'm just pouty because I have to wait an extra few weeks to play Doom, I honestly am curious as to how the market system works.

I rather see them do this early then wait for them to have a stack pile and then start selling them

The problem was not the gpu but rather the gddr3. Notice how the 6800 non-ultra/GT (with regular ddr) was widely available a few weeks ago?

not a fan of saving money?

as long as demand exceeds supply then the manufacturers can continue to sell at the price they choose.. it is ussually policy not to produce a surplus.. not only does surplus mean you have to sell cheaper but also that you have to pay to warehouse the product.. it's all about the moneys

GDDR shortage. The retailers are jacking the prices, not the manufacturer.
