I need some current recommendations for cases that have slots (and cooling for 7 SATA hard drives). I would even consider cases with SATA backplanes.

for that matter, I see some backplane enclosures you can buy on newegg that seem to fit into some cases. are those worth considering?

there are so many cases out there that any info from someone who has got a case like woudl be very helpful.

Lot depends on are you after quiet PC or is noise unimportant to you.
Soft HDD mounting (seven HDDs generates lot of vibration) is quite incompatible with hot swap backplanes which need very precise alignment of drive and can't allow it to "vibrate around" for avoiding stresses to connectors. Also often these hot swap cages have noisy/small high speed fan.


Also you didn't tell about budget.
 
well pretty much any full sizes case can take 7 hard drives if u use a hard drive cage. depends on if you have size limitations and also cost.

Small and cheap cases would be cramped and or not provide mcuh cooling so your hds are gonna be running hot expecaly if you have 7 and cable managment gonna be a bitch too also adding to clutter and reducing cooling.

if you dont mind about size the best is a cooler master stacker its the best u can do if you dont mind about size cause its dam big. for abit more money you can get the silverstone tj 07 it can hold 6 at the bottom and also 2 psus which would help with that many hard drives. youd have to use a 4 in 3 hard drive cage to accomodate the other one. youll have to get anouther 4 in 3 with the stacker anyway as it only comes with 1 so with 2 you can hold 8 and there plently more space it can hold 3 cages in total so plenty of room to upgrade. butthen u wont have room for a cd rom drive lol.

I reccomend the stacker 810 its much cheaper then the new one and the tj07 still looks pretty good and is huge plenty of room to work with. if you dont mind about money go with the silverstone tj07
