First of all, I have an ASUS Radeon 9600xt 128mb agp. When I first got it, I installed the latest ASUS drivers. I had reformatted for the new video card so that was the only drivers I had loaded for the card. At this point my games all worked fine.
Then, I decided to switch over to catalyst drivers because they are updated much more frequently and I like having the newest drivers out. I installed Catalyst 4.3 after fully removing the ASUS drivers. It was a while before I played any games so I can't be sure if this is what caused the problem, but I'd like to be able to eliminate it.
The basic problem is that many games started having problems at about the same time. Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942, and Halo all give me a Windows error report caused by bf1942.exe, halo.exe, etc. just after the splash screens come up. Jedi Academy now will not start normally, it says cd 1 is not inserted, but I can run the game in its safe mode and just change the settings each time and it works.
Anyway, if this sounds like a video driver problem, I'd love to know. Otherwise, what else could it be? I thought maybe DirectX, but I have 9.0b and if it died I have no clue how to fix it.
Thanks
also, feel free to AIM me (metalwon), as I would love to fix this problem as soon as I can, otherwise my only alternative is reformat again, and I hate to do it unless there is no other way.
