To be honest, i was shocked reading that article that someone who is supposed to be a tech reporter was so completely wrong.

I can understand if you are operating on rumor, but this was known even with the PS3 (different APIs, but also based on OGL)
 
That wasn't the only article I recall reading about that subject prior to the PS4 launching. There were quite a few others.

Logically, it seems that they were written on pure speculation and assumption based on the fact that the PS4 would be running on x86 architecture. It all snowballed and we got articles like that (PS4! --> x86! --> OMG it MUST USE DX!)...
