Mantle on a intel 5960x

Using an hd 7950, techreport tested mantle in bf4 and thi4f. (no oc on the cpu i believe)

Clearly demonstrates why amd needs mantle for their cpus.

Ok, I'm confused, I don't see what your point is? apart from Mantle making games less CPU bound.... when an 8350 nearly matches a $1000 8core intel chip, and even the Intel CPUs seeing a nearly 20% boost in Thief when using mantle.

Are you being sarcastic in criticizing AMD here? If so I'm sorry for missing, if not then I'm confused.

i think yes, thats the point, in demonstrate that AMD need Mantle to be on pair not only with 1000$ 8core intel CPU but also with the 100$ i3 (2C/4T).. 200$ i5(4C/4T) or 320$ i7(4C/8T). but its also a benefit to intel where in Thief the i5 4590 score higher than the i7 4790K despite the higher clock in this last one..

Why is the i5 doing so well? I mean even though it's a <1 frame difference.

I will let ya know how the performance is. I just purchased the CPU and RAM from Frys. They had no X99 boards, so I hit up the Egg and ordered a Asus Rampage X99. I was hoping they would release a sabertooth, but the Rampage will do.

Maboblivion Mantle is used to get more out of the videocards. That current batches do not push the cpu that much is all because of the design of games took a leap from DX11 15K to Mantle 35K-40K. To push gaming even more the people that have a faster cpu would be able to push 80K to 100K batches.

What exactly is wrong with our current APIs? There are two main problems. The first is that the today’s APIs are fragile. They might be great for a small demo, but trying to ship a complex modern game on one is difficult. End users mostly expect to have to download the latest drivers for their game to run, a clear sign that APIs are not achieving their goal of abstraction. The second problem is that APIs and drivers are generally inefficient and very poor at threading. In D3D11’s case, threading was attempted but failed to achieve decent scalability, where OpenGL hasn’t even proposed true threading capabilities. The trend of eight-core and beyond consumer CPUs is clear. If we are to utilize our consumers hardware, then true threading is a must.

Games can only progress as long as there is an API which can do this.

Testing single player BF4 is pointless, so the only relevant test on that page is the Thief test. The new Intel CPUs are great for streamers as it would allow them to set their quality levels higher. Using a CPU to encode video always looks better than a video card at this time. So I would say that these are the ultimate gaming CPUs as more and more gamers get into streaming.

Not being sarcastic. We all know where amd cpu stand in dx11.
On the other end mantle performance on various hardware hasn t been well established, finding mantle benchmarks from review sites that aren't using r9 290, r7 260 and 4770k are slim to none. I just thought it was a nice example ,showing what mantle can do on different cpus.

It's lighter on the CPU - if you're looking for stress, then multiplayer is the place to go

In what way?

What is the purpose of the single player test? BF4 single player doesn't create a load on a modern system. That's why all of the systems benchmarked looked the same. It surely doesn't replicate the load that BF4 multiplayer creates. In BF4 multiplayer the slightest stutter, skip, artifact, frame lag, etc will absolutely ruin your gaming session. If your system is jittery and causes you to miss shots, it will eventually lead to a loss. Those system stresses don't even occur in the single player campaign. I wish my settings and overclock from single player worked in multiplayer. That's why [H]ardocp tests multiplayer BF4 rather than single player.

I know someone is chomping at the bit to say that single player testing is better because you can replicate scenarios with more consistency than the sandbox nature of multiplayer. I still think it's better to create a load that will ultimately differentiate system A from system B. Plus who played single player longer than to unlock the weapons? I think that is explanation enough why BF4 single player is a bad test.

Considering Thief under Mantle performs similarly to BF4 SP on nearly all tested CPUs, I don't see how it's 'pointless'. The results demonstrate that Mantle brings all CPUs to parity in SP, which is useful information, and a good endorsement of Mantle, is it not?

What's lacking are D3D results for the same test, but the article isn't really intended to be a Mantle vs. D3D comparison.

Actually, it clearly demonstrates that there is headroom left in our hardware, which can be exposed with better software. Low end/high end/multi-GPUs; all can see benefits.

And that creates a double-win, for AMD. As people with AMD or Intel processors should consider AMD graphics and Mantle.

Indeed. Mantle works really well.

Still, some people apparently just like to buy an oversized CPU, just to waste it's extra speed on inefficient code.

I just ordered a AM3+ board pretty cheap and getting ready for the CPU price drops.. as I think AMD is on the right path but maybe a year late with Mantle.. that review really shows AMD will sale afew processors come Monday.

BF4 single player testing is pointless. It always will be pointless. Regardless of the results it doesn't show anything useful. It's like testing a moped, a Lamborghini, and a person in a wheelchair at 1 mph.

That's all I was saying. I wasn't being mean or trying to start an argument. Just stating what my opinion is. Of course Techreport makes money off posting those tests so I guess they are relevant in the end?
