Alright, recently I just built myself a new rig. (Athlon64 3000+ @ 2.2ghz, 512 Corsair, 9800Pro) Well, during the build I was moving my IBM Deathstar a few slots downward in the case, so, of course I was going to remove the power from the drive and while I was doing that, I realized.. hey, this damn plug isn't comin out so easy. So, I wiggled it a bunch, and began to pull. That didn't go as planned, so I wiggled some more, and then pulled. Well, this time the damn thing popped out, and it sent my hand flying. Here's where it get's ugly, as my hand was flying backward, i went directly into the molex connector on my 9800 pro, tearing it off. Oh, great I though, as I yelled a few curse words. I guess my question is, is there anyway I can just get a replacement molex connector and then just install that on the card, I know for a fact it works (i connected it ghetto style with a rubber band). It just kinda sucks havin a brand new computer that's awesome, and then having to use a 9200SE, haha. Thanks ya'll.

if the card is under warranty or new, RMA to where you bought it or ATi.

or, if you are good with a soldering gun u can try and fix it. but i'd suggest an RMA.

Don't RMA a card that HE broke. RMA's are for Manufacturing defects, not mistakes. Geeze that just adds to the cost of the video cards in the first place

Yeah, that's why I want to try and fix it myself. I just don't know where to get a new connector. If I could get one, I'm sure I could fix it myself, I just need to know where to find one... anyone know?

I was waiting for a "finger caught in GPU fan, gets parts splattered in blood and fries whole system" story. Just make sure you get someone that is skilled at soldering computer parts to do this or at least someone that has done it before with success. I know I wouldn't trust myself to do this. Molex won't come out + pulling really hard + sharp edges on case = cuts and blood on hand.

Haha, I wish my story was as cool as the whole blood splattered everywhere bit, however... mine is just more sucky. Yeah, I plan to get help from my machineist uncle who knows a thing or two about soldering. If it were left to me, I'd end up with similar success to my whole "turn an xbox controller into a pc controller" fiasco... needless to say I ended up with 2 worthless controllers and a sudden urge to learn how to solder properly.

I thought for sure, the wire gets pulled into the tornado HSF, and yanks the PSU, Case, and everything else in till the whole machine vanishes in a blinding flash of light....

i had did that once except my hand didnt hit my vid card, it went into my zalman HSF


good thing i only got nipped, and that these fans are low RPM

....i know the crap about those connector's NOT letting go when you want to pull them apart as well as watching that "molex-connector on the card=moving, while you wiggle", so, what i did was took my hot-glue gun and laid a bead next to the connector and the board, on both "sides"......now whenever i need to pull and wiggle.....no prob's and no more "ooop's......slipp.....and into the fan crap".......and not to mention, the connector is still on the card".......just my 2-bit's of help .........
